Late 80's "punk" is garbage. Ska ain't punk.

Though I'm a HUGE fucking OI fan and I practically jizz myself whenever I think about their music, I have to (kinda, sorta, not really) agree with greta_cosmic: Operation Ivy more ska than punk, without a doubt. Best punk songs ever?

Kill The Poor-- Dead Kennedys
We Are 138-- Misfits
Baby, I'm An Anarchist-- Against Me! (IMO)
Punk Rock Girl-- Dead Milkmen

To name a very short few.

for againt me!, id choose "drinking guinness makes you strong" over "baby..."

but black flags "damaged" tops my list.

oh and the descendants in my van, crucial bbq by murphys law and though its not punk exile by slayer is one of the greatest tracks of all time.

^you know, I think I agree with you on against me!
I have to admit, I'm incredibly biased about Baby-- I have fucking incredible memories associated with that song, you'd be biased too ;) haha
Anyway, my original point was this: OP, educate yourself about music. Though Jaded is an awesome song (but not their best, try Unity or Sound System), Operation Ivy is definitely NOT purebred punk.

Thank you Eden!  Baby, I'm an anarchist is definitely up there on my list too.

For classic The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop never gets old or Sheena is a punk rocker or I want to be your bf.  Shit, their whole first album.

Something a little newer I'd go with Saturday Night by The Misfits or an upbeat song; Dropkick Murphy's - Finnegan's Wake.  I can't decide on a number one.

i think it all depends on what you grew up listening to. i dont really consider against me punk purists, a fucking great band whatever you call them.

Television's Marquee Moon is the greatest early punk record no one seems to care about.

This thread has reignited my faith in humanity.

... PFFT!!! Who the fuck am I kidding, there's NOTHING that can do that!

but this thread does makes me smile in a not-sarcastic-or-murderous way.

In english: USBOMBS JAKS  great skate punk

In German: WIZO Goldene Stueck Schiesse awesome political punk

^WIZO was the shit. They were one of my favorite bands from late elementary school through college. I was upset when they broke up, to say the least.

"The Lambrusco Kid" by The Toy Dolls

"Astro Zombies" by The Misfits

"Pimp" by The Dwarves

"Supermarket Fantasy" by Screeching Weasel

"Fish Fry" by Big Black (I'm counting them as punk and you can go fuck yourself if you disagree. Or if you agree)

"Troubadour" by The Adicts

Big Black is in my top five most favorite bands ever. I'd definitely call them punk. Steve Albini is such a delightful asshole.

Leftover Crack - Gang Control

idioticidiot_II

Oct 26, 2009

Let's go with... The Unseens "Social Security"

Or maybe AFI's "Modern Epidemic"

Or let's go classic with The Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer"

Maybe the Exploited's "Sex and Violence"

Crass's "Big A, Little A"

Zounds' "Did He Jump?"

The Subhumans' "No"

Lower Class Brats' "Addicted to Oi!" (Ok, they're technically an Oi band, get over it)

Anything from Cock Sparrer's "Shock Troops" album (more oi!, bugger off)

That one song that came on the radio recently that says something to the effect of "Shut up bitch, do the helen keller and talk with your hips", even though it's not the punk sound, that line is kind of offensive, snarky, and downright awesome for something on the radio...

I can't make up my mind, punk has alot of aspects...

I second Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl."
Anybody heard the cover by Diesel Boy?  Brings the 90's pop-punk sound to an oldie... very good.
