| oneaussie Sep 14, 2012 Re pics and letting people post them "where ever" its called consistancy as i had said in our last thread but will say it again, you let the dogs in then its the cats, then its the tattoo's then its washing machine and dryer pics (yesterday) etc etc then you have facebook And after all thats been let in, im sure someone will want porn stars and wrestlers pic's to be ok'd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again its a dating site , write about likes/dog/cats/tattoo's in your profile, then you and your date have something the talk about or share pics about while getting to know each other
** People also forget if you are so desperate to show violation pics, there is an option called ALIST, yes its a free site, but if you want to do something outside the guidelines, pay the man
| BecauseItOwns Sep 14, 2012 The plan moving forward with new Flagmods is that we're going to introduce a flagmod quiz/test in the same style as the questions upload test. It will have about 20 examples ranging from obvious to slightly tricky but all with a single most correct answer. If you pick the wrong answer, it will give you an explanation of why that answer was incorrect, likewise if you mark the correct answer, it tells you why it was the right decision. There has long since been a call for something of this nature, and with the increasing number of new mods it's now being scheduled. This addition probably won't make it in until early December, but we are carefully monitoring flagmod trends, and will push it sooner if it becomes necessary.

| oneaussie Sep 14, 2012 BIO an idea to stop some of b***sh*t regarding pics is to offer a cheap pic folder option (only) , say $2 monthly , yes there are a lot of cheap people who will complain about it but im sure a % might go for it, keeping less pics out of flagmod and giving another option other then alist
There was a discussion regarding a free pic folder, is that dead?
And if that happened, would'nt you lose a lot of alist customers?
****Thanks BIO , look forward to seeing the "test" do us old guys/gals have to take it or only newbies
| BecauseItOwns Sep 14, 2012 The vast majority of people who use A-List don't get it for the unlimited picture space. The idea of additional photo albums would be that regular users could upload additional photos, but not an unlimited number. That idea is still in the works -- we've been working on a lot of stuff so that particular feature isn't a priority. | |
| Ceij Sep 14, 2012 @CFB: Here are some staff (and former staff) comments regarding how you become a "flagmod": 5-13-2011 by BecauseItOwns:

For what it's worth here's my opinion on all this: I vote, in my humble opinion, the best interest of OKCupid. If the pictures suggest the user is a scammer (e.g. photos of internet porn models) then I vote delete. If the OKC member just wants to post an extra picture of their pet etc. then I vote LA. Faces are not a requirement here so if the picture is just of say "CFB's legs" then I will vote LA since from her other pictures I have a pretty good idea of what she looks like if I saw her in public. My intention is to build the community and the OKC membership. I don't want users leaving OKC because their picture of their beloved pet, their bike, or their legs, was deleted. On the other hand, scammers and porn posters will drive users off so I don't have a problem voting Delete on those. I will also vote delete on a picture if say it's the only one and it is of a "flower" (or if all the pictures don't have the user). As for my personal use of the site, I can always hide users that have pictures I don't like or that don't give me any information about what they look like. I tend to be more liberal and others are more Draconian and that is OK. Flagmod is about the community setting the standards (within reason).
| CornFedBlonde Sep 14, 2012 @ trish6912 said: <i>"Well, I know someone who took the little gray heart and made a picture of THAT and used it, and even IT got flagged, lol:)"</i> Hmmm, you wouldn't be talking about me, would you? The above happened to me back in late June when I was having a very difficult time on the journals and my postings and my profile was being stalked by DRB trolls.... I deleted ALL of my pics for a week or so and I copied the little gray heart, made it pink, tilted it 25 degrees or so and split it in two with a wide open jagged crack in the middle... I had a "broken heart"
Oh, and answer me this all of you old and wise FlagMods, just how are main profile pictures of users like PlaySerious (with the catscan x-ray) and B1ueBufellow (with his ubiquitous blue buffalo pics not showing himself) continue to be allowed? (update... I think that PlaySerious is gone now?... but his profile was up for a very long time with that x-ray picture as his main pic... was it ever flagged?) CFB

| CornFedBlonde Sep 14, 2012 ^ @ Wow, I wrote several intelligent paragraphs and stayed completely on topic... and now it is gone!!! I guess that all of you FlagMods didn't like what I wrote........... | |
| Side--Effect Sep 14, 2012 I wrote a question about how you were able to post an empty comment. Then I found a way to do it. Perhaps you did too. | |
| Ceij Sep 14, 2012
No, it has to be a "glitch": BecauseItOwns Apr 22, 2011

| Side--Effect Sep 14, 2012
Nope. | |
| Ceij Sep 14, 2012
OK. Care to share how you accomplished this "feat"? Added/edited after watching the "feat": OK you said "watch" then edited your message and now it shows a grey "quote bar". Note that CFB's post doesn't exhibit this. Now your grey quote bar is gone. I've had glitches when posting with quotes etc. Sometimes I have to abort and start the reply/post all over again. I just call that sort of thing a "glitch". Sorry I fell off topic. Now back to our regularly scheduled Flagmod discussion.

| Side--Effect Sep 14, 2012 I highlighted, hit space, quoted, hit B & I and comment/update or something like that. It was just a combination of things that one might do when posting, except for the highlight then space bar that eliminates the message. | |
| CornFedBlonde Sep 14, 2012 Why in the world would anyone want to purposely post a "blank" comment on this forum??? I don't know why my thoughtful, intelligent and several paragraph long comment came out BLANK.... right after I posted the comment I got the "normal" box that said I have 10 minutes to update it then I came back about 15 minutes later and pooofff, it was GONE.... Based on what was said here, when posting a comment on the Forums, I am no longer going to use block quotes... that seems to be the crux of the problem, well, at least in my one-off experience. My comment, if I remember correctly, was regarding Trish's comment about the little gray heart being a "picture" when the profile has no pictures. Back in late June... I was being hammered by the DRB Trolls on both my journals/comments and on my profile... getting nasty, disrespectful and insulting comments (even on non-controversial happy subjects not related to politics) and being flagged for everything imaginable and also I had some romantic IRL issues that were not going well, so I deleted ALL of my pics and I photoshopped the gray heart into a pink heart, tilted it about 20 degrees or so and inserted a jagged crack vertically down the middle... essentially showing that I had a broken heart... well obviously that didn't stay up for long, it was flagged and deleted within a day... as it should have been per the TOS and picture rules.
OK now, where do I sign up... someone put in a good word for me please.

| CornFedBlonde Sep 14, 2012 ^ Oh, and before I get the comment "Why didn't you BLOCK them" I did block them and they kept coming back with new temporary profiles with very minor changes in the their screen name.... finally the OkCupid Robot was alert and some of those gawd-awful troll profiles were deleted for good.... thank you Mr. Robot .... or is it Ms. Robot??? | |
| Ceij Sep 14, 2012 ^^ There isn't a way to "apply" for Flagmod nor can you get flagmod access by others recommending you. Basically, when the backlog of flags gets large enough, the OKC staff runs their "analytics" and gives flagmod access to those with the highest ratings. They haven't revealed what the criteria for those ratings is (nor do I think they will). ^ I'm pretty sure that the Staff Robot is androgynous ;) | |
| spookye Sep 14, 2012 @Ceij My personal opinion on the matter is that it doesn't seem fair not to apply the same rules evenly across the board to everyone. If someone has five pictures of themselves and one picture of their dog, they have broken the same rule as the person who has one picture of their dog and none of themselves. I do get where you're coming from in that the person with the 5:1 ratio obviously is putting forth a better effort, but I don't personally agree that that "earns" you the privilege to break a rule as it is written. If they change the official Guidelines I'll change my stance, but for now that's my thought process on the matter. | |
| CornFedBlonde Sep 14, 2012 @ spookeye The pictures that I had on my profile that were flagged and deleted were not of a pet or of artwork but rather they were of me... my legs and feet... and they were not ECU .... I showed as much or more of my body in those pics than a head shot in most of the profiles. I guess the issue there would be how do you define an ECU. If it is just the face it is OK, but if it is of the legs and feet it is not? The pictures not showing the user should be deleted per the TOS... that is a very clear rule. When I become a FlagMod I will certainly enforce the rules but there sure seems to be a lot of ambguity and objective judgement that varies from FlagMod to FlagMod, hence the confusion that us poor users have to endure and me especially because I am not a FlagMod... yet. I am looking for my FlagMod message and FlaMod status very soon, thank you BecauseItOwns and others who are influential with the decision makers at OkCupid. | |
Did you see the recent story about the jury awarding one possible slimeball $40M from another dirtbag? The one giving away the $ was surprised that the award was so high. He was also surprised that his star witness took a dump on him. Infamy is not conducive to fairness.
My point is: we all know the guy with the little gray heart picture and he reaps what he sews.
