i don't really listen to punk that much (i'm much more into post-punk)... but i have my select favorites.  whew, i'm glad someone mentioned The Damned already... i was about to protest.  here're some good ones:

The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette
The Damned - Smash It Up (The Offspring version rocks too)
The Damned - Ignite
The Damned - I Feel Alright

wow, no Rancid luv???  the basslines!!!!

Rancid - Hyena
Rancid - Nihilism
Rancid - Maxwell Murder
Rancid - Journey to the End of the East Bay

gotta include the 1st band i EVER saw live (& my teenage self finding out what a moshpit was back in '95, ohhhh yes):

The Offspring - Bad Habit
The Offspring - Gotta Get Away

Older Punk: Sloppy Seconds - Come Back Traci, or pretty much any other song off my favorite punk album of all-time, "Destroyed".

Newer Punk: Teenage Bottlerocket - So Cool, one of the most catchy punk tunes I have ever heard, and pretty good lyrically.

I could also choose almost any of The Misfits (Danzig era) tunes and call them some of the best, with "Beware" being another in my top five punk albums.

OK, so these are the best punk songs in my life (really though, the list could change in a week):

  • Descendents - Bikeage (anything by them, really. That was hard considering theyre one of my 2 all time favorite bands)
  • Lagwagon - Razor Burn
  • Minor Threat - Out Of Step
  • Green Day - J.A.R. (this song holds alot of meaning for me, considering 1 of my 2 best friends from high school passed away 2 yrs after we graduated)
  • Ramones - Youre Gonna Kill That Girl
  • Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies - anything they touch turns to greatness =oD
  • blink-182 - Apple Shampoo (anyone gives me shit for them being on here, Ill give you more reasons for these guys being on my list then the boy band that was the Sex Pistols. At least blink knew they were a joke. They just had some fun with it...for awhile, at least)
  • Minutemen - This Aint No Picnic (again, hard band to choose from)
  • Rancid - Corazon de Oro
  • Screeching Weasel - Peter Brady
  • The Offspring - Nitro [Youth Energy]
  • Swingin' Utters - Windspitting Punk
  • The Misfits - Theme For A Jackal (any song that can add piany to it is good in my book)
  • Bad Religion - American Jesus

Family Man-Black Flag

EMI-Sex Pistols

Beat on the Brat-The Ramones

Ghouls Night Out-The Misfits

Please note: Any song after 1980 really isn't punk it's a retro punk song sung by posers.

I like how useful this forum could be for someone just getting into the genre. Enough truely edgy bands as well as some with greater mass-appeal that could make the edgier ones easier to dive into.

Oh, and if you've never heard of em (They're a relativly large local success, from a bum-fuck county near me) The Daycare Swindlers, anything they've put out. Bum-fuck VA's finest punk/rocknroll/ska outfit.

Add to this list some Morning Glory (Anti-life is the antidote), a touch of 999 (Homicide), some Adolescents (anything from the self-titled), maybe a smidgen of Dead Boy(Ain't it fun?).

You could throw some Gogol Bordello in there if you're down with the whole fusion genre idea. On that note, the World/Inferno Friendship Society is nice. Intro5pect is good nintendo-punk (Due to their abundance of 8-bit sounds.)

Anarcho/acoustic punks? This Bike is a Pipebomb (Buy their stickers, put em on your bike, chaos ensues), Ghostmice,    Defiance, Ohio.   Against Me! is a given, search for their old EPs Vivada Vis, the Acoustic EP.

Anti-flag can be fun, they've got a good chunk of humorous songs (Right on. Indie Sucks, Hardline Sucks, Emo Sucks) to get past their politics with.

Authority Zero, Pennywise, Against All Authority, for a slightly cleaner sounding hardcore punk.

Teen Idles, State of Alert, Minor Threat, brings up a good mix of oldschool hardcore.

TSOL, The Partisans, older school socio-political punk.

Cheap Sex, The Virus, The Varukers, The Devotchkas, A Global Threat, The Casualties, The Unseen, Career Soldiers, Street Dogs, Leftover Crack, and you've got a solid base of speedy dirty street punk.

The Filaments, The Flatliners, Operation Ivy, Mouthwash, Choking Victim, rounds out a ska-punk section.

Hardcore thrashers could get down to Municipal Waste, Brutal Truth, and Common Enemy.

I feel that this forum totally has a purpose of us annexing new bands more so than naming good songs. Let's elevate?

There are about 50 songs I'd say tie for best punk rock song of all time, so I can't say which is the best... but I can say the song "History's Stranglers" by The Bronx is the best punk rock song I've heard in a very long time.

IDK but can anyone tell me what song this is, or who it's by?

"So there I was, in a kindergarten classroom, with nothing but a trench coat on, and a funny lookin' mask. So I'm sitting there, and I'm subbing for my uh niece and uh, she's saying, "Hey, why are you teaching the class for us?" and I said, "Hey, I dunno.. but you want some candy little girl?"

Strangle hold

Fucking you, fucking bitch (something something something society?)

Strangle hold

Fucked that bitch

Choked her out 'cuz she's fuckin' rich"

There are no punks. We'd have universal health care and free college tuition like every other country.Punk as an 'art' that supposedly changes people/politics was usurped early on by upper-middle class/upper class snotty kids that had contempt for contempt's sake: then they got jobs fucking over working class/middle class peers; all for the sake of money/status.
