Whenever you put something on the internet with a picture or other identifying information, you are making it public

As a general rule of thumb, it's a good one to follow. But it's not that cut and dry in this case. While I could see their profiles as long as I was logged in, I wouldn't be able to see their answers because I haven't "publicly" answered those questions myself. Publishing their answers like that is at the very least an abuse of the spirit of the feature and while it may not be against the OKC "lets cover our arses" terms of service, it's definitely not meant to be as "public" as you are making it out to be. Besides, lots of Internet privacy advocates think that internet companies don't do enough to protect user privacy.

You're kidding right? You can choose to answer questions privately. In order for the answer to be visible to others, they had to click "make my answer public." If they wanted to answer the question for the purpose of matching only, they could have left it at that. But no, each and every one of these entitled asshats chose to let others see.

Yeah, but say you made an answer to a question public but I didn't, I wouldn't be able to see your answer. Even if it was public to others that had also answered it publicly, it would remain private to me. See what I mean?

I have no control over you or anyone else. By hitting "answer publicly" I relinquish my control over who sees that information; it would be silly to assume that everyone else would not answer than question publicly. In fact, I pretty much figure that someone will see it, including you, anyone else on the sight, including perhaps someone who thinks my answer is ridiculous or offensive. That's what "public" means.

Huh? No, if you answer privately, your questions are private and no one can see the answers to those questions.

That's what "public" means.

Also, your "public" answers to questions will show up in the activity (news feed) on OkCupid

That's a prudent approach, but I think people do have an expectation that their answers are at least semi-private in this case (i.e. view-able to some but not to be broadcast to everybody with an Internet connection).

No, if you answer privately, your questions are private and no one can see the answers to those questions.

Yes I know. But even the so called "public" answers of others are still private to me if I don't answer the same questions publicly. That's what I was saying.

It really is unreasonable to think in this day and age that ANYTHING you post on the internet is private.

Especially on a website whose membership is pretty much unlimited.

It's not that I'm white knighting for anyone, I just think there's got to be a better answer to the "Nice Guy" problem than this.

Sure, but that's not the purpose of that tumblr; the purpose of that tumblr is to have a laugh at the expense of some shitty people, not to solve the problem of Nice Guys (or the problems encountered by Nice Guys, for that matter).

^^I may be trying to drum up sympathy for the devil here, but I just think some of those guys don't really deserve to be lumped in with such a rogues gallery of genuinely menacing, shitty people.

You can say this much for "nice guys", at least they are easy to spot and thus avoid.

I get lots of laughs from that blog, but it also makes me cringe.

"Wait a minute, I used to think the same thing."

It's taken some time to grow out of that.

i've been wanting to make a tumblr like this but with girls who answer yes to "would you strongly prefer to go out with your own ethnicity" and "do you only want to have children of someone your own race".

those girls are more pathetic than these guys in my honest opinion.

^And why is that?

And Camp...you were a "nice guy?" I really can't see that at all...

^^ So make one. You can call it racistsofokc. The thing is that's not really a gender-specific phenomenon. In fact I think a couple of (male) forum regulars would make an appearance.

I call,

duckfacesofokc

singlemomsofokc

nerdygirlsofokc

You can make one of women too, guess nobody cares or bothers to.

I would giggle at duckfaces. More suggestions: average girls who think they're hot, redneck high school dropouts who want to marry doctors, girls who call themselves "independent women" but then say they expect to be treated "like a princess"  - hell you could make one just out of single moms who refuse to date single dads.

^heh, I think I saw one or two single moms like that (that won't date single dads) how prevalent is it? Also I wonder how high the success rate is for some that have kids but don't want to have more. It's one thing raising someone else's kids but then to be told by a woman that she refuses to have more (one of your own) that's gotta be a tough pill to swallow.
