| | What9Thousand Jan 22 An implementation that doesn't piss anyone off is non-trivial. There are a lot of different trans people who have very different ideas about what transness means to them. Having FtM and MtF as gender options is something that would itself piss some people off. Having an additional toggle for trans or cis would make it problematic for secret trans people not to out themselves or at least draw suspicion. And so on. You probably can't please everyone, no matter how carefully you do it. I suspect that rather than wade into the ideological bedlam that is the transblogosphere, OkCupid would rather just remain user-unfriendly. |

OP, it's not correct to view people as "whatever they come off" as. you're required to view people as they wish to be viewed and refer to them using terms they find appropriate (but only when dealing with sex, gender expression or sexual orientation).

The way I see it, the main reason they don't have such options is because they are trying to appeal to a broad cross-section of people, and if they did add those options all the vanillas would go running away screaming, thinking it's nothing but "sick kinky bastards" here. It's amazing how many web dating sites don't even have a "bisexual" gender preference option, not to mention OkCupid's infamous "available" dating status. Our society is not yet at the point you can simultaneously provide such options and not scare off a broad spectrum of mainstream users. Though we will get there someday. |
