Maybe they just haven't fixed that detail yet? They do a lot of updates but they haven't fixed that hmmm...

it's nice to leave some things up to conversation rather than algorithmic sorting.

there are a number of MtF in my area, presumably at various stages of scientific transmogrification.

i'm not interested in that, and given the option would probably have screened it out when i signed up.

so i'd never get the opportunity to see some neat profiles or talk to some people with interesting ideas.

maybe we don't need to filter for absolutely everything.

An implementation that doesn't piss anyone off is non-trivial.

There are a lot of different trans people who have very different ideas about what transness means to them. Having FtM and MtF as gender options is something that would itself piss some people off.

Having an additional toggle for trans or cis would make it problematic for secret trans people not to out themselves or at least draw suspicion.

And so on. You probably can't please everyone, no matter how carefully you do it.

I suspect that rather than wade into the ideological bedlam that is the transblogosphere, OkCupid would rather just remain user-unfriendly.

because this is a business and theres no money to be made off making a few trannys happy

daishaface

Jan 23, 2013

Yeah, there are only like 10 or 11 trannies in the world.  If you want to make money you have to appeal to the tranny chasers, who are legion.

Nah, I was just specifically looking for male-identified crossdressers and I was tired of seeing 50 year old dudes who don't bother to shave.

jesussssssss wtf, i'm going to ignore some of what i read, and if a trans wants to viewed as a girl or guy, they put girl or guy lol, they have the option to do w.e. they want, and it only makes more sense that way

(prersonally) i view people as whatever they come off to me as, everyyyybody is different and you said 10, 11 trans in the world? I have met ALOT ._. they can be as beautiful as a gorgeous girl, or a girl now a handsome man, SERIOUSLY

sounds like you are not judging them like you should. letting your bias get in the way. i can assure you none of them are as good looking as a real girl

pseupseudio

Jan 28, 2013

your negativity is immanent.

OP, it's not correct to view people as "whatever they come off" as.

you're required to view people as they wish to be viewed and refer to them using terms they find appropriate (but only when dealing with sex, gender expression or sexual orientation).

The way I see it, the main reason they don't have such options is because they are trying to appeal to a broad cross-section of people, and if they did add those options all the vanillas would go running away screaming, thinking it's nothing but "sick kinky bastards" here.

It's amazing how many web dating sites don't even have a "bisexual" gender preference option, not to mention OkCupid's infamous "available" dating status.

Our society is not yet at the point you can simultaneously provide such options and not scare off a broad spectrum of mainstream users.

Though we will get there someday.
