| __secret_agent__ Sep 2, 2012 Google brought me here with the same question. I haven't learned the answer, but I haven't learned the "locals" on this forum are a bunch of good hearted, sympathetic people. | |
| CampAnawanna_ Sep 2, 2012 I wish that dudes who found the OkC forums would bring along some girls with them | |
| Meleuphonious Dec 8, 2012 OK, Snarky Jerks - I'm a frigging PhD candidate and I don't know the definition of "local broadcast," nor have I found it posted anywhere. I'll tell you what - don't treat me like a dumbass for not being able to parse out some arbitrary distinction between a local broadcast and profile picture, and I won't treat you like a loser because your lack of a sex life with actual human beings has left you with enough face time on the internet that such information is a given for you. Suggestions: 1) OKC needs to post an operational definition for their usage of the term 'local broadcast' 2) There needs to be a clearly defined set of criteria to distinguish between local broadcasts and profile pictures 3) There should be a term of distinction between the primary avatar that serves as the user's thumbnail image, and other pictures that users may have in their albums Until these or similar measures are taken, there will continue to be confusion about how to evaluate NTU photos. Additionally, why should anyone take exception to additional images in photo albums? These images are often important clues about worldview, values, and personality. Moreover, why is a drawing or closeup image of a tattoo something to delete, while it's perfectly OK for users to include photos of their children ON A DATING SITE with no way to verify that sharing these images is done with the consent of the minors' legal guardian(s)? It is at the fore of prevention advice from the National Clearinghouse of Missing and Exploited Children that child predators often target their victims by way of taking an interest in their single, dating parents. Before users/flaggers/moderators and/or administration staff of OKC cast judgment on the intelligence of others, they would do well to assess the purpose and clarity of rules governing the posting of content.

| CampAnawanna_ Dec 8, 2012 If you think you have pics that could be flagged, don't post in the forums
FYI | |
| Meleuphonious Dec 8, 2012 Anyone is entitled to flag what they wish, though spurious flagging may undermine one's credibility. | |
| SamDelRio Jan 13 I think "local broadcast" refers to uploading a picture on the OKCupid mobile app, so it is not the same thing as a profile picture. I had to Google a bit to figure this out. The moderation guidelines are confusing. | |
| SillySmartie Jan 13 Jeez. Local Broadcast is a feature of the mobile app where people can use their phone GPS location to meet other people also on the locals broadcast in their area. | |
| netgypsyArwen Feb 24 Thank you very much. Had the same question. Very confusing when you smartphone has been dumb for a while. | |
| dgbdc Feb 24
As a former one of these, I know how little this means.
| IAmTheWarInside Feb 24 ^i actually just skipped through her response after reading that. plenty of PhD candidates that don't know what the fuck they're doing. i've read an IamA from a professional writer who helped many candidates pass by writing their dissertation. some of them didn't know the difference between they're/their/there. you know someone is a pompous jackass when you read 'moreover.' | |
| Bruga1234 Mar 28 So, how to tell if it's a local broadcast or profile pic? Looking at a pic right now that says " Caption: Uploaded with the NEW OkCupid Android app!"
From above I think this should be local broadcast but it says Profile Pic.
There's mention of something new in the guidelines, "Local broadcasts," but no explanation of what it means and nothing comes up under a search or through introductory information for new users. If it's an A-list user thing, we should still be able to find reference to it in a search.
Photo rules were changed thusly:
Local broadcasts
But, how does that differ from profile images? I know mods have different opinions & some variance is intentional, but this is ridiculous. It's impossible to make decisions about photos when a term is added with no definition or description included. Please explain.
