I'm leaving town on 15th, but could probably give you some tips. You should take some time to look at the architecture- Chicago pretty much invented the skyscraper. The boat tours for that don't run over the winter, but there are walking tours available through the Chicago Architecture Foundation http://www.architecture.org/, or there is some good stuff online for self-directed tours covering various themes and periods here http://egov.cityofchicago.org/Landmarks/Tours/Tours.html or the cultural center has a scheme called Chicago Greeters, where volunteers take you on various themed tours for free http://www.chicagogreeter.com/.

Even if you want to focus on fine arts, don't forget the public art in the Loop- there are sculptures by Picasso, Moore, Miro, Calder, Chagall, etc, just sitting there. http://wikitravel.org/en/Loop_Art_Tour Also, don't forget the Mexican Fine Art Museum. http://www.nationalmuseumofmexicanart.org/ |

I am taking a trip with my art department to visit ALL the art that can be seen in a week in chicago. I'd absolutely love to meetup with someone familiar with the area. I am very much interested in seeing the real chicago through YOUR eyes.
