I only spotted the "movie match" today.  You see it on the tab list after clicking on the "matches" link to the left.  Anyone have any idea what it is?

If you're talking about the "Crazy Blind Date" thing on the right side of the page, that's a new feature.

I have never seen a "movie match" tab here.

What that could also be is another new feature called "Events" - I've never been able to test it because it's not available here, but perhaps that might explain it.

I had to turn off my ad-blocker to see the full tab.  But here's a screencap of it.  Mystery solved  :)

Hmm, very interesting, never saw anything like that here before.

So did it find people that like the same movies you do? Did they list them on their profile? I'm curious where it is getting people's movie preferences..

I'm assuming it goes by keywords in your profile where you write which movies you like, since it doesn't really explain how it works it's magic.

It's actually pretty simple, I think. They just added a handful of movie related questions to the question database

How do you feel about documentaries? (they ask this twice, actually).

Animated movies…

Do you like watching foreign movies with subtitles?

What's your favorite kind of popcorn when you’re at home watching movies?

Which of the following movie genres is your favorite?

Who do you love seeing movies with most?

And possibly they also use past movie related questions. As near as I can figure, questions are categorized, so they just added a movie category (along with sex, lifestyle, etc)

Why did they do this? Maybe it's some sort of sponsorship deal...

It is sponsored by Pop Secret popcorn. They did add new questions too. When you go over to the tab, on the right it asks you to answer more questions and they're all movie related. There's also a contest with a trip for 2 to New York for participating. Interesting.

What's the URL? I'm not getting this tab or anything. (I did find the questions and answered most of them...)

It's on your matches page, there is a new tab - Search, Quiver, Favorites, and now Movie Match (in blue)

Well that's the problem, it's not there. I see only search, quiver, favorites. I tried things like okcupid.com/movie-match, with no luck. If you can see the tab, presumably you can tell me what it links to?

Clearly it's only served to certain users or most of us would have already seen it. When I first read AmuseMeRightNow's post, I double-checked and I didn't have it.

Perhaps because it's an advertising thing people with A-List don't see it, but I'm more inclined to think it's just showing for a certain subset of users right now.

Anyone else here with A-list that are seeing that tab?

I have faux-A list and I see the tab.

Here is where it takes you when you click on the "details" of the contest. Perhaps you can click on the okcupid promo to see if it gives you the tab?

Maybe A-list people don't see it because it's an ad, basically?

Maybe. I have ad blocker that blocks most of the stuff except when they do those dumb tv show promo things where there are okc "users" that are tv characters.

Did they do that more than once? I only heard of one instance of that..

Going to the Popsecretlabs or Popsecret website doesn't have any impact on the match page tabs, not that I expected it to.

Now that we have one person saying they have "faux" A-List that does see it, next Q is whether someone who has "real" A-List sees it.

I'm guessing they are selectively targeting certain user demographics, or rolling it out progressively.

I have the tab but the questions on the right are not movie related. I checked several. They're just the regular questions. So I still don't get how they are giving me these movie match percentages.

Could you date someone who was really messy?

I have the tab, but it doesn't have any new questions, just guys who have similar movies listed or something? I also don't see anything about a contest.

Not A list but have seen it for a while.

There's been a lot of movie related questions for the promotion.

I'm curious as to why it wouldn't be an entire site issue.  I'd wonder about the legalities of that, since almost all contests these days have to be pretty open.  That said, maybe it's pitching towards those who have previously stated that the love of movies is important to them.  Or the fact that the contest crossed with the Blind Date feature is causing some issues.

Oh!  Just looked at it again.  In its original iteration you could only see what percentile "movie match" you were.  Now it has that layered over the regular match numbers which is MUCH more helpful and fun.  :D  Cool.

Also, in addition to the blue tab, they now have a movie cupid figure doing an advert for it right next to your regular matching options.  So, more advertisement and more useful and fun as an option.  Guess a few got it a bit early, but it looks like it's out of minibeta now.
