I know there are horrible stereotypes against the industry, particularly the drivers, since a search for 'trucker' on this site is pretty much just women forming similies concerning foul language, and a lot of creepy old guys.

I've never subscribed to 'hook up' culture, and had no trouble finding a relationship through school or work before I got into this career, but it's been a long three years looking for a way into a long term relationship without traditional dating environments (I've been on OKC for over 4 years, and it got a whole lot worse once I started driving).

You come across as standoffish and angry. Perhaps it could be that, more than he trucking.

Right.  Just remember that there are a lot of idiots out there, the same idiots who will apply certain stereotypes to every cop, lawyer, politician, mechanic, salesman, or male hair stylist out there.  Due to this idiocy, maybe it isn't a bad idea to withhold some information about your profession until you have established yourself a fair bit with someone, so they are less likely to jump to conclusions.  That said, I would find it difficult to date someone who drove over the road if they were away from home for long periods of time.  That can put a huge amount of strain on a relationship.  One of my boyfriend's buddies has driven cross country on and off for some time, and has been dating the same girl for over ten years, so it certainly CAN work.

Yes, four years of editing/recreating my profile has made it a bit bitter, but i've always had that mean mug of mine, if that's a part of what you were referring to. I've gone through dozens of essays, and those jagged edges seem to have garnered more attention than anything. Thank you for pointing that out, Phyreworx. I'll play around with it a bit.

Thank you for looking on the bright and fuzzy side, booksandbourbon.

Men of a grizzle must sit out the drizzle.

I've neutered my essays as much as I feel comfortable with for now.

ok_stoopidcupid, I've weighed the pros and cons of hiding my profession, and I've grown tired of conversations ending as soon as I mention explicitly what it is I do for a living. I'm well aware that there are drivers out there in relationships, but many of them started before they ever set foot in a truck, often cemented by the complications of offspring. I'm also aware that the divorce rate in my industry is extremely high, as is evidenced in the trucking meme of "my wife left me, the kids don't recognize me, and the dog is dead".

Yet, the stereotype of the UPS or Fed-Ex driver is in high demand. Could it be the clean shaven look?

OP, if you posted photos of yourself clean shaven, I bet a LOT more women would be attracted to or interested in you.

That might be the case if I had a neck or a chin. My mandible sits about an inch off from my adam's apple. It isn't pretty. This is a courtesy beard, for you, the world. It creates the illusion of a complete skull, which is quite aesthetic. I'll see if I can pull up a picture from the two times in the last 11 years I've gone clean shaven. Currently working on a collar length beard.

Also, I think its those little boy shorts delivery drivers wear in the summer that gets the girls all hot and bothered.

After having worked in a truck stop, I have to say - they're a fun bunch of dudes. They are funny as all hell (if you're not easily offended). But as far as attraction, meh.

First of all... patrons of lot lizards. Nuff said. *shudders*

Second of all, I just don't find that type of guy attractive, generally speaking. Too much hair. Lax hygiene. Lot of flannel. LOL.

I would be more likely to date a trucker than to date a chucker. Unfortunately, the latter wants me more.

Out of the closet. Finally.
