write a profile you would want to read. don't write a resume or advertisement. you're not applying for a job, you're displaying that you're an interesting person.

include anecdotes. don't say you're inventive, talk about a time you devised an inventive solution. don't say you love to travel, talk about your favorite travel experience.

in essence, show. don't tell. no one cares that your friends would describe you as funny if your readers wouldn't.

have decent photos.

these are absolutely all of the tips that anyone needs.

that's not a profile tip, that's a life tip.

i'm tall and white, i'll give you that.

i'm also poor, in college at 31. have no vehicle, and have a mouth full of broken teeth.

if your personality is sufficient, you can get around appearance - and when we're talking about profile tips, personality is what really shines through.

i like two pieces of her advice particularly:

1. don't take your own photos. unless you're a professional with a shutter release and can make it look like someone else took them, have someone else take them.

if you take all your own photos, it makes you look like no one wants to take photos of you. this suggests that you're both unattractive and socially untenable.

2. read the profiles of your own demographic and note what you like about them, and what you see so often that it feels trite and overused. make sure your profile contains none of these things.

if you follow my advice above, point 2 is basically redundant. but if you're not good at following advice - which, if you're posting here, can be assumed - consider that point.
