If you get a colored CHECK mark, it means you have emailed the person previously.  If you hover your mouse over the checkmark, it should show you the date you FIRST emailed them.  As for the explanation of colors, see below.

If you have NOT emailed a person before, they will have a colored dot that will represent their typical message response ratio.

If you hover your mouse over those, you will notice that they will reveal the following text:

  • GREEN: Replies often
  • YELLOW: Replies selectively
  • RED: Replies very selectively

If a person tends to respond to every or nearly every email they receive, they will get a GREEN dot.  If they are more selective than that, they will get one of the other colors.

There are hundreds of perfectly innocuous reasons that a person might view your profile.  They could be a volunteer investigating something reported about your profile or some other activity of yours, they could be someone like me, answering a forum post, wondering where you live or how old you are, they could have clicked by accident, they might be curious about some music you like that someone else mentioned, etc etc etc.

It doesn't affect you in any way.  For my usual advice, please CLICK HERE to read my post on the matter.

This system of colored dots for Reply Frequency sounds great, but it doesn't seem very useful if almost everybody is green. In my area about 80% of the profiles are fake; they all have green dots. About 90% of the members haven't been online for over a year; they all have green dots.

OK, one possible explanation is that nobody ever sends them messages, so even no replies would mathematically be a high %.

The only red or orange dots are people with rather stringent criteria, so we already know that they are selective.

It used to be the case that if noone had sent a user a message in a long while, it would say so on their profile, something like "Hey, so-and-so hasn't gotten any email in over a week, why don't you send them some?".

I wonder if they still do that..

I do not think the feature "edit profile" at the begining of everyone's profile is a good idea. It gives the option of anyone changing your profile. I have read several profiles that seem they were changed. Some of the stuff written on them did not seem like it was written by it's owner.. I know edits are screened by OKcupid but still.... l do not think it's fair for that person for  someone to edit their info....they may not be aware it's been edited. I guess to some folks it may be funny to change a profile and make it funny....but it's not funny at all. It may ruin your chances with someone who might be interested in you.

Profile "wikiedits" are not screened by OkCupid - I don't know where you came up with that.

Furthermore, any of those edits submitted on a profile have to be approved by the profile owner.

Lastly, if you wish you can restrict or completely deny the ability of people to even submit such changes for approval in your Settings/Accounts Settings/Profile Options page.

Summary: any wikiedits you see in profiles were done with the complete knowledge and approval of the profile owner.

  1. Click "My Profile" in the left margin of the page, then "View".
  2. Click "The One of Me" tab
  3. While looking at the right side of that page, scroll down until you see a big blue button labeled "Make Them All Public".  Underneath that button is a smaller silver button that reads "Clear all my questions".  That's the one you want.

How do I change my username?

Sorry, you can’t. There are a couple reasons for this, one of which involves confusing other users. If you absolutely hate your username, you should delete your account on the Settings page, which will free up your e-mail address. You can then start over and choose a new name.

What does "sorted by magic" mean when viewing someone else's answers as compared to your own?

Evie2010

oh.... ok then as long as the profile owner has to the option to approve any editing done by someone. On a lighter note....... l think this is one of the best sites out there.

I don't know which "rating bar" you are referring to.  You mean where you can rate a profile 1-5 stars?

Many possible reasons.  Have you ever successfully used it?  If so, what has changed on your device/system since then?  If you've never used it before, READ THIS

It means that OkCupid is not revealing how they are sorting it, but it's for your own good.  :P

Well, I've been here 3 1/2 years and it hasn't happened to me yet.

After a week though, you should probably give up expecting one.

Anywhere from a few minutes to a few months, in my experience.

I think the best strategy is just to write a short initial note, and then let it go and move on.  If you get a response, consider it a lucky break.  Too many reasons why a person might not reply, and no use obsessing about it.
