| RicoTaco May 8, 2009 Why exactly is the man expected to pay? Just because he asked her
out? What about when I invite all my friends out? Do I have to pay
for all of them because they agreed to come? What about women who
are just friends? Why don't I have to pay for them? Why does the
"possibility" of SEX make it necessary for a man to cough up money?
Are most women just prostitutes?

| Eek-A-Mouse May 8, 2009 Are you a tosser?
| |
| ThePragmatic May 8, 2009 How do you get the yoke out without cracking the egg?
| |
| What9Thousand May 8, 2009 Because we live in a sexist society. What an easy question to
answer.
| |
| JohnnyTheFox May 8, 2009 I once took a girl to a nice, expensive restaurant and when the
bill came at the end of the night, we made a run for it. It was the sexiest date ever, no question.
| ThePragmatic May 8, 2009 Why do men protect the women? Why don't the women protect the men?
| |
| Tarragon81 May 8, 2009 Usually if you are trying to impress a woman, you will be obligated
to pay first. Oh yeah.. and don't run out of gas in your car. As for friends, in my experience I believe it's safe to go dutch. As for group dates.. obviously you should pay for the direct person you are taking.. at least for the first date. This doesn't mean that you're obligated to pay for EVERY date you go on. Take turns or dutch it after the first and/or second time. Watch out for GD's and materialistic 'It's all about me' wenches.
| lovingfun9 May 8, 2009 dutch is fine. it makes the date neutral and there is no obligation
at the end of the night.
| |
| ThePragmatic May 8, 2009 Why do the women and children go first? How come the man doesn't go
first!
| |
| Kat_307 May 8, 2009 I never expect a guy to pay on the first date. I like to keep it
equal, buy each other a drink, go halves on food etc.
| |
| RicoTaco May 8, 2009 "ThePragmatic" I know you're being sarcastic.. but those are all
serious questions. Making fun of this topic is no different than
making fun of racism. "Why do blacks have to be slaves? Why not
whites?" You are almost acting as if these stupid rules are OK just
because they exist. Maybe slavery was ok too.
| |
| ThePragmatic May 8, 2009 I'm making a point. Not being sarcastic. When you get the point let
me know.
| |
| ThePragmatic May 8, 2009 Also slaves and natural animal instincts are not the same frigging
thing.
| |
| constantjourney May 8, 2009 The answer is ultimately going to come down to some variant, either
heavily camouflaged in rhetoric or thinly-veiled and explicit, of
"because she wants him to." Though there's also the "because he
wants to" variant. In my case, I treat non-dates and dates alike,
so I (usually) don't have to get a headache over this one... thank
goodness.
| |
| What9Thousand May 8, 2009 If your question is, "Why is the male expected to pay for the first
date?" the answer is, "Because we live in a sexist society." If your statement is "The male should not be expected to pay for the first date," my answer is, "I agree." I only date people who are going to pay for their own food. ThePragmatic, is it your natural animal instinct to pay for your date's meal? Because it's not mine.
| psuedoplacebo May 8, 2009 I usually try to go dutch. We're getting further and further away
from a Traditionalist society and gender roles are changing. Dating
in itself is changing as well as people's views on paying.
| |
| RicoTaco May 8, 2009 "ThePragmatic" What does animal instinct have to do with buying a
meal for someone?
| |
| TwinReverb May 8, 2009 I think it is just a custom that manages to hang on from earlier
times when men were either the only wage earners or made
substantially more than their female counterparts. Nowadays women
make as much, if not more than many of the men they date. I have no
problem paying if I do the asking but once a couple of dates pass
without even an offer to share the costs I begin wondering whether
she feels entitled to it.
| |
| ThePragmatic May 8, 2009 ^^ Because it's just natural alpha male dominance over women. It
has existed since life began. The male is suppose to be the
financial land owning tough guy that protects his woman and
children. Have you ever read any history at all?

| constantjourney May 8, 2009 ^ RARRRR me strong, me buy salad. Kidding :)
