If he hadn't also mentioned Camus and Locke as his favorite writers. Locke is called "The father of Liberalism", renowned for his "live and let live"-attitude. And the existentialist nihilism of Camus would obviously not be appealing to a "Christian man of unwavering moral fortitude".

more to the myth than futility, why would Camus have picked it up again? I see it as Camus' (Existentialist) challenge to see purpose, and even joy, in accepting that life is not imbued with providential meaning. Absurdism revels in meaninglessness; it embraces the thing with which Camus struggles.

We talk about Camus a bit and I think she's a cool person to talk to (my wife had known about it) so I keep the conversation going, mention that my wife bought me The Rebel by Camus.
