Evan understood just exactly how much Japanese I knew, which words/phrases I understood. He knew to speak to me in English, but he'd tease me with Japanese terms of derision -- which he'd explain to me in English.Kids don't confuse languages. Learning a language is learning a culture.

languages between Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and so on. An interesting thing about not knowing the language is that it allows you to focus that much more on the vocal melodies. It lets you enjoy the voice "as an instrument" that much more. One of my favorite bands, Buck Tick, is a Japanese
