a fan of War of the Worlds - right from the
beginning with H.G. Wells' original story, through to Orson Welles'
infamous radio broadcast, the 1953 movie and even Steven
Spielberg's 2005 adaptation with Tom Cruise. But the best
adaptation of the story for my money is Jeff Wayne's musical
version of
Powerless
I dug out a copy of Jeff Wayne's
War of the Worlds: The Musical and my battery powered CD player
(stupid iPod crashed Thursday night) and it was magical, like
falling love.
The Moody Pops and Memories
Although the classic Heyward-sung song "Forever
Autumn" from Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds album is a
memorable pop song, it is miles away from Steve Hackett's "Racing
in A" or Camel's "Ice," two contemporaneous Prog masterpieces.
