What the panel name seems to be getting at though, is the general
license to consume mainstream media sf that allows these properties
to be hugely successful while literary fans seem to work from a
much smaller population base
Decisions
I've gotten two bites so far: a big megahotel in
DOwntown Oakland, for a front office manager position, and a
smaller (but still fairly big at 400 rooms) luxury hotel right by
the Ferry Terminal in SF, as a bellman. I don't know what to do,
because both have pros and cons.

Ren-Faires, SF cons, Fantasy etc. That I must be a Trekkie or
Furry type.Er, no.I go to those venues as a merchant/dealer. I
dress up in comfortable costumes because I have to and I am there
to WORK.I do love to read SF/F, and history.

camp we make it the Winnipeg Folk Fest a convention, so that's an
easy answer.
Move to Portland? Pros & Cons
There are no cons. Here's a big pro. Also: great music scene,
reasonable weather, beautiful landscape. My understanding of it is
that it's a smaller, less gay SF.
