As I'm sure you all know, the Japanese novel, Tale of Genji, by Shibiku shows a view of an elite and was written for them even though it might be argued that it written for all time.

I've read the complete "Tale of Genji" (源氏物語) in it's complete original Japanese which is about 54 chapters and quite a few volumes.
