But the other reason I made it through
junior high without going emo-suicidal was the fact that I
discovered Tolkien, and high fantasy in general. ...
Yeah, a lot of what's out there is a rip-off of Tolkien and other
works, but to be realistic, it sells and gets read because people
want to see
which is the better fantasy series
I would have voted for
"Lord of the Rings" (by JRR Tolkien) if it was listed. If
"Neverending Story" (by Michael Ende) or "the hobbit" (by JRR
Tolkien) counted as series I would definitely have voted for
either.
What Book Are You Reading Right Now?
Tolkien which is great.Next is kinda a
tough call, I might try to pick up another Tolkien book like one of
the "History of Middle-earth" books, or "Tales of Tom Bombadil", or
I might read C.
If you HAD to pick one, which would you pick?
The entire point of
the story is what Tolkien termed "eucatastrophe" (i.e. good
catastrophe): an unexpected turn of events for the better, a
miracle. Tolkien was a devout Catholic, and the cosmology and world
view in the books reflect his hopes for salvation.
