A hiking GPS isn't the same as a driving GPS, although a driving GPS can tell you where you are, if not show you, say, a topo map. A hiking GPS can give you driving directions, but they generally don't speak and ... a jump from the Monterey Market (trivial walking distance) which made me very happy.

@myotherlips - unless your circulation is really really bad, the walking itself should keep your extremities warm enough. a pair of liner socks and some thick wool hiking socks plus a good pair of hiking boots will definitely serve you well as will a decent pair of winter gloves.
