Technically what I'm listening to now isn't white noise, but so called "pink noise", a combination of "brown noise" (called such because it is based upon Brownian motion, though it is also called "red noise" for no good reason, which spawned the pink name), and good ol' white noise.

I played white noise on my computer and turned it up loud enough to drown out the other noise. That got the message across, and white noise is easy enough on the ears to probably not make your headache worse.

Federlein, Chris French, Terrence Hines and Michael Shermer say that EVP are usually recorded by raising the "noise floor" - the electrical noise created by all electrical devices - in order to create white noise. When this noise is filtered, it can be made to produce noises which sound like speech.

@OP- White Noise actually scared me for about a day afterwards, then I realized that 'white noise' is complete bullshit. I don't think it's very politically correct that ghosts only speak English. I'd like to take an identical 'white noise' recording to several people who speak different languages
