My preferred form of entertainment. I'm not too picky about the

sometime, let me know. Also, does anyone need an extra player for
game night?I'm an artistic person, and I like all kinds of visual

that video games are not art. Let's start with the easiest reason
why video games are not art--they directly violate the fourth
assumption. Video games of ALL stripes require more than a simple
perceptory capacity for complete experience. The reason why, of
course, is that all video games are

While I viewed video games with the same
level of appreciation as the average gamer to begin with,
eventually I began to see video games for what they are: art in
motion. Interactive, art in motion to be exact. Unfortunately,
video games suffer the same stigma that sequential art fairs: that

so it seems that games are
not really a performance art. but i was starting from the premise
of games as art. if not text, if not performance, what room is
there for games? when i ran up against this obstacle, i decided to
take a bold step: what if we assumed that games are fundamentally
different?

Whenever some big budget game comes out with a really well put
together single player, people start talking about videogames being
art. In general, these games are shooters, which are more or less
action movies where the story moves at the player's pace; or RPGs,
where the player is forced to endure

However, being an art
education major, you can imagine how much I love art and art
history. What if I read a ton and play video games? Movies, TV
shows, and video games are becoming more and more complicated, as
far as story line goes, these days because our brains have become
too familiar with the

Games are applied
mathematics as an art form, and art is one of the highest reaches
humans can aspire toward. D&D may never hang in a museum, but
it is a foundational artwork of our culture.

brain-dead games. Even arcade games require
skill and knowledge of the game that is more than button mashing,
and most hard-core players will criticize a game that can be beaten
with random mashing by an unskilled amateur.See? Now I feel like I
have to defend myself. ;)And I've found a few games

seem to be talking about video games as an art I
may as well start with that. To me, video games can be art in its
own respect. After all we do consider graphic imagery such as
paintings and scupltures and what not, as works of art. We as a
society also consider literature and poems works of art.

"But videogames are like handing out boxes of
crayons at the entrance of a gallery. If you can control the art,
then you're influencing it, when the point is that it's supposed to
influence you ."-Stuart CampbellGames involve creative skills, but
they're not art.

The question stands, are video games pop culture?
@avant_gardening Good point. The whole section could be simply
labeled "Favorites" or "Hobbies". @belialx80 Art is hard to define.
I wouldn't call most games art. Art is entertainment but not all
entertainment is art.

now that's cool. Sow is drawing or modifing PC games.
Now your rocking -- cut the boring stuff (I like to watch TV) and
expand the cool stuff (modifying PC games, computer art,
movies). Attach a piece of PC art

about art as separate from videogames, when I stated very clearly
that there are many games created specifically AS art (with no
marketing or store shelf space to design around). I won't bother to
get into the messy gray area of what is art and what isn't, but
there are plenty of examples of games
