indie music really has my ear...but Portland's
music scene is par excellence. I am also probably more appreciative
of a woman's voice on the song: Cat Power, Feist, and the
Headlights or Camera Obscura (oh how I do love Scottish indie
music, do you know Reindeer Section?). I appreciate English indie

constantly playing and discussing music. I love pretty much all

So that
leaves the music. However as per the first statement I would say
that I really do love music and thus should be now classified as an
indie boy. I'm glad that's settled. I'm now going to use this space
to say that it seems that indie music is a self-deprecating
culture.

In
fact, the only thing that all indie music has in common is that it
sucks. If they want to make a genre out of that, they can. It would
not be called "indie"; it would be called "bullshit." Not all indie
musicians are identical. The Type A indie band (the "A" is for
asshole) thinks that they're

One common belief within indie culture is
anti-conformity. The major influence for the indie culture came out
of the indie music scene, associated with the DIY culture to the
arts. Many followers of the indie culture are associated with local
independent art and music scenes.

Heres some links,
my main love is the electronic music, but i selected these for an
indie audience. One is classic indie, two are contemporary indie,
and one is included as an illustration of where the outsiders of
today might hang
out.

not the same as indie. I've been to punk shows, and
I've been to indie shows. People at punk shows appear to actually
enjoy the music and the crowd, whereas indie fans seem to just
stand there and nod their heads if they move to the music at all.
That's "indie" music. But "indie" is also an umbrella

that's "mainstream" or popular - There's a lot of good stuff in
indie (both Music, Film and even T.V.), but that doesn't mean
what's mainstream isn't. Especially since a lot of it's subjective
anyways - music is music, so stop caring how popular a band is or
how much airtime the media

seems like almost every time I read a profile of someone who sounds
interesting, smart, motivated and creative I get to their musical
tastes and see a disappointing lack of music with EDGE. I know this
is SF, and indie hipster stuff is all the rage, but even my indie
friends still have a dark side.

"Indie" doesn't point to a common style of music, it originates
from a common style of approaching the music business. That's what
it is supposed to mean, but "indie rock" is most certainly a
specific genre, and when people say "indie music" they generally
mean "indie rock.
