and fiction ... as a fan 50+ years ago, and has given me more hours of enjoyment over the years than anyone else.Hard Science? Have you tried some of Vernor Vinge's stuff? He's a mathematician and computer scientist himself, and his novels tend to be based on the speculation on some aspect of science.

genre and vice versa and as great as Superman is, believe me Im a fan too, he wouldn't exist without characters like Hugo Danner, Doc Savage* or John Carter of Mars all characters from classic works of science fiction. Ok Doc Savage was a golden age Pulp comic hero but he did use alot of science.
