Software:I love free-as-in-freedom software. Permissiveness, that's where it's at. Anything I program or create is always free too, GPL or CC-BY-SA (kieranmelroe.com/downloads). I budget ~$20 per month to donate to various worthy causes, such as free-software developers, ... Piracy .

I also spend a lot of time thinking about software. Futile attempts to stop piracy, ignorant politicians that let innovation stifle, broken and unfair laws, and decent laws that judges overlook and let offenders go free are a few examples.

Piracy is a mean of freedom of speech and free culture . It's not about legality, it's about politics and freedom. On computing :Microsoft is the whore of Babylon, and Bill Gates is the Antichrist. Free Software (free as in freedom) is the only way towards world development in the information age.

I like piracy ....both of the high seas and software varieties.

Microsoft claims that they encrypt all functions of their operating systems to protect their software from piracy and theft (they claim to not want others to steal what they stole) but despite this, encryption of every operation does not make sense.

File-sharing

Software companies can find ways to fix it themselves and have file sharing as legal (sponsors like I said). For example some company makes some software. Now instead of not making half the money they should because of piracy they could grab sponsors to fill their boring install screen.

The Pirate Bay: Heroes or Villains?

In the meantime, companies like EA who are including ridiculous install limits, forced periodic activation and permanent, unremovable software installs have dealt with lower sales, class action lawsuits and rougly the same piracy rates.
