My self-summary
Hey there! I'm a Canadian who just started living in the Netherlands recently. I'd say that I'm pretty laid back and more introvert than extrovert. I'm usually pretty quiet and would rather think about what to say before actually saying something, but if you get me talking about something I like then I can go on for a while. Apparently OkCupid thinks I am more cool and more geeky, I knew it was possible!

I like good food, long books and longer vacations. I love the outdoors and I'm always up for a run or hike or some adventure to a park or a museum or another city. That said, there are days when I like to sit at home and do nothing but read and watch TV.

I try and laugh at everything and not take things too seriously. I can be sarcastic to a fault and I make bad puns. I'm always interested in hearing people's opinions on things, even if they don't mesh up with my own. I'm easily impressed by anyone that's kind, a little bit weird, and really passionate about something, bonus points if its something I'm also interested in.
What I’m doing with my life
I just moved to the Netherlands in February to begin my Masters degree at Wageningen. I'm an aspiring biologist and have my BSc in Animal Biology from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver where I grew up. I love working outside and with animals so hopefully I'll get the chance to do some of that here, and I'm playing around with the thought of doing some work in South Africa later on in my degree.

Currently I'm spending most of my time getting used to being back in school after taking a break for a year and a half, trying to make new friends, trying to furnish my house, and getting used to the Dutch lifestyle (bikes, cheese, making 180cm seem short). Basically the typical kind of things you do when you move half-way around the world.

Since moving here I've started trying to learn Dutch, so if you think you can teach me something I'm more than willing to learn!
I’m really good at
Learning things
Scrabble and Crosswords
Useless Trivia
Being a socially awkward penguin
Wondering about obscure facts and then spending hours of time following up on said fact which usually leads to some other odd fact. Its a vicious cycle.
The first things people usually notice about me
Either my beard, my eyelashes, or that I'm quiet.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Food: I like all kinds of food, doesn't matter, put it on a plate in front of me and I'll eat it. Asian, French, Arabic, Indian, you name it. I've finally started to learn how to cook well since moving over here, so I'm super excited about that!

TV: Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Archer are my top three shows now. The IT Crowd and Dexter are some of my all time favs. If the TV's on in the background its on Discovery or Food Network.

Music: The National, Fleet Foxes, Death Cab, Arcade Fire, Stars, that's the sort of stuff I could listen to all day. Folk, 90's Rock, Indie and the occasional sorta dancy tune. I grew up on Jazz so I love Mingus, Brubeck, Monk and all those greats too.

Movies: Any action/thriller/sci-fi movie, or any sort of historical fiction. Plus rom-coms are a guilty pleasure. The last reallly good movie I saw was probably Her.

Books: I had to leave all my books when I moved, still trying to get used to this e-reader thing. I'll read anything that catches my eye. The nerd in me loves fantasy authors like Salvatore or Martin. Any historical fiction. Also Orwell, Bradbury, Asimov, stuff like that.

Video Games: Definitely RPGs, strategy and adventure games. Pokemon, Elder Scrolls games, Civilization, Zelda, Smash Bros., I could go on...
The six things I could never do without
-Friends and Family
-A desire to learn new things
-Fresh Fruit
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Grad school, life in Europe, stuff related to that.
Where I should go on my next vacation.
And food, always food.
On a typical Friday night I am
With a few friends playing board games or at the local pub having a couple drinks.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I considered using a cat as a profile picture to get more views, but I don't have a cat here. :(

That and I have a love for colourful and/or patterned socks
