My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hey there, I'm Darren, a Canadian living in the Netherlands, doing my master's in ecology, and trying to learn Dutch (Yes, you can send messages in either language). I'm pretty laid back and introverted, so for me happiness is usually something quiet and relaxed. I like good food, long books and longer vacations. I love the outdoors and I'm always up for a hike, visiting a museum, day trips to other cities or some such adventure. Of course there are days when I like to sit at home and do nothing but read, listen to music, watch TV, or play video games.

Other stuff:
-I try and laugh at everything and not take things too seriously.
-I can be sarcastic to a fault.
-I'm a cat person.
-I think I'm pretty quiet, but other people tell me I love to be social and talk to people. I'm not sure who to believe.
-I'm always interested in hearing people's opinions on things, even if they don't mesh up with my own.
-I'm easily impressed by anyone that's kind, a little bit weird, and really passionate about something, bonus points if its something I'm also interested in.

If you want to know more just send me a message. I'm actually rather friendly.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm an aspiring biologist and currently starting an internship at NIOZ. Ispent 3 months on the Mongolian steppe where I did the field work portion of my thesis, with a little luck I'll be going abroad again after school!
After finishing my master I'm still not sure if I'd like to continue with academics or try and find a 'real job', but as long as I can work outdoors/with animals/doing something I enjoy, I'll be happy
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- Learning things
- Scrabble and Crosswords
- Useless Trivia
- Being a socially awkward penguin
- Wondering about obscure facts and then spending hours of time following up on said fact which usually leads to some other odd fact. Its a vicious cycle.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Either my beard, my eyelashes, or that I'm quiet (at least I think I'm quiet, lately have told me that I'm quite social, which is bizarre)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Food: I like all kinds of food, doesn't matter, put it on a plate in front of me and I'll eat it. Asian, French, Arabic, Indian, you name it. I've finally started to learn how to cook well since moving over here, so I'm super excited about that!

TV: Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Archer are my top three shows now.

Music: Folksy Indie Rock. The National, Fitz and the Tantrums, Death Cab, Arcade Fire, Stars, that's the sort of stuff I could listen to all day.

Movies: Any action/thriller/sci-fi movie, or any sort of historical fiction. Plus rom-coms are a guilty pleasure.

Books: Anything that looks good, Yes I judge books by their covers, or at least the back cover. Reading Margaret Atwood and Murakami a lot at the moment.

Video Games: Definitely RPGs, strategy and adventure games. Pokemon, Elder Scrolls games, Civilization, Zelda, Smash Bros., I could go on...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
-Friends and Family
-A desire to learn new things
-Fresh Fruit
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Grad school, life in Europe, thesis topics, stuff related to that.
Where I should go on my next vacation.
And food, always food.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
With a few friends playing board games or having a couple drinks at a pub somewhere.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You want to help me with my Dutch grammar/writing (seriously!)
You want to play Scrabble, or Catan, or Cards Against Humanity, or Carcassone or... Ok I think you get the point.
You want to tell me what your favourite animal is and why! I do study that sort of stuff for a living. :)

Or, most importantly, if you want to!
