My self-summary
I live for stimulation. Whether its flooding my senses with live music, devising plans to get a bunch of friends together, wandering outdoors feasting on natural beauty, keeping the noodle busy with logic puzzles and strategy games, or drinking deeply of intimacy and deep conversations, I am on a quest to experience.

I live with two small parrots, a dog that is perpetually smiling, and a wonderful boy. Ours is a lively household and we keep ourselves entertained.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a behavioral scientist, I work in a neuroscience lab at a local medical center. Careful; getting me started on the topic will probably result in a rush of breathless, excited talking.
I’m really good at
I'm a damn good mom.

I'm good at coming up with fun and interesting things to do around town or nearby, really *feeling* the music, losing myself in the beauty of nature, locating the best hostel, street vendor, and mode of public transportation in a new city, and experimenting with new ways to make healthy and delicious food.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am friendly; I have an open face and I like to talk. I ask lots of questions, and I'm genuinely interested in knowing the answers. I am always burning with something to say. I tend to interrupt, excitedly, but not to talk over you, to help shape the conversation.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: pop science, novels, feminist lit, Buddhism, behavior, birds, Native American realistic fiction, anything by Vonnegut, Margaret Attwood, Joyce Carol Oates, BF Skinner, Thich Nhat Hahn, pretty much everything written during the Harlem Renaissance, Eudora Welty, and whatever someone heartily recommends.

I actively engage in literary evangelism.
If you're in to, read:
Natural selection, The Beak of the Finch
Politics/Distopian reads, The Handmaiden's Tale
Generally good novels, Cloud Atlas
The nature/nurture question, The Dependent Gene

I'm very experimental when it comes to food and music; both are best enjoyed in person.
The six things I could never do without
a trusted confidant
nature
learning (my life's work)
a goal
music
physical exertion
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How this would look graphed as a function of that.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hope you don't mind hanging out on Saturday or Sunday. On Friday I'm out owning the city with my favorite kid.

Our regular rotation includes block parties in the art district, grabbing a burger or pizza in Deep Ellum, packing a picnic and riding bikes or going for a swim, catching a movie or taking the dog to meet friends at Klyde Warren Park. We are public transportation enthusiasts, and we make a point of walking when we get a chance. Occasionally we head to Denton to hear live music and eat ice cream on the square.
