I am earnest, honest, and subtle.

My Self-Summary

I'm kind of nerdy, usually sort of quiet around people I don't know well, and I'm usually bearded. If you have a similarly-dry sense of humor, you might think I'm funny, if you don't, you won't.

I like music and art, and lots other things, especially if they're weird or interesting or unusual.

I'm open minded about everything, and liberal.

I own a nice beat-up minivan, but I prefer to bike as much as I can, even though I live on top of a damn hill.

I love living in a real city, even if St Paul is sort of a quiet one.

I'm more of a night person than a morning person, cat person, chunky peanut butter, coffee: black, I prefer slightly too-cold weather over slightly too-hot weather, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than being cynical, but never give money to homeless folks.

I ideally want to meet someone that I would want to be in an actual relationship with, but really I'd just like to meet people that I wouldn't meet otherwise. I don't think I have any desire to be married or have children anytime soon or ever.

What I’m doing with my life

I finished an, apparently useless, bachelor's degree in art, with a major in photography, and I'm currently figuring out where or what I want to do next.

Currently I'm making art, curating the art at the cafe I work at, and generally enjoying myself. I'm doing lots of experiments with cooking.

One thing I'm never doing with my life is moving back to any suburb anywhere, ever.

I’m really good at

photography, cooking curry, and probably some other stuff.

I'm pretty good at guessing what is going to happen in a movie too early on and spoiling it for everyone else.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm not sure, I should ask them the next time they notice things about me.

The first thing telemarketers notice about me is that my last name is unusually long and difficult to pronounce

The first thing people notice when looking at pictures of me is that I don't really smile in pictures.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: everything by Douglas Adams, most things by Kurt Vonnegut, and Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku; lots of classics I won't list

Lately I've read a bunch of books by: Tom Robbins, Haruki Murakami, William Gibson, and Roberto Bolano. I'm reading The Physics of the Impossible by Michio Kaku at the moment.

movies: everything written by Charlie Kauffman, most everything by the Cohen Brothers, everything by Miyazaki, and most of David Cronenberg's older movies. Lots of others too the taste of tea, american beauty, magnolia, Tampopo, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Let the Right One In

TV-wise I watch the Office, 30 Rock, The Daily Show, South Park, and a few other things when I can catch them online. Some past favorites were Arrested Development, Twin Peaks, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fraggle Rock, and News Radio

music: The Books, The Bad Plus, The Birthday Suits, Dosh, Air, Akron/Family, Animal Collective, Deerhoof, Fog, The Beach Boys, Atmosphere, Alpha Consumer, Cake, !!!, The Clash, Danielson Family, To Kill a Petty Bourgeosie, The Boredoms(only live), David Bowie, Electric President, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, Joanna Newsom, The Flaming Lips, France Gall, Grizzly Bear, Happy Apple, Jose Gonsalez, Justice, Kings of Convenience, The Knife, Low, Malachi Constant, Menomena, Mogwai, Mono, The Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Panda Bear, Pattern is Movement, Pelican, The Postal Service, Radiohead, Redstart, The Shins, Sondre Lerche, Tiki Obmar, Tom Waits, Tortoise, Tunng, TV On the Radio, Zebulon Pike, and almost anything else except bad country music, bad jazz, and everything with autotune vocals.

most recently I've been listening to: The Very Best, Juana Molina, The Velvet Underground, Crystal Antlers, Sunset Rubdown, Rock Plaza Central, and I am still listening to Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion over and over again.

food: curry, sushi, and anything I haven't tried before. Pickled stuff. I am a pseudo-vegetarian for the purpose of my own health, and environmental reasons.

The six things I could never do without

friends
family
music
delicious food and drink (curry and good beer, surly beer)
art
a bike

I spend a lot of time thinking about

cosmology, fraggle rock.

On a typical Friday night I am

probably working, but I like doing all sorts of things. I don't like to have routines for my free time. I like to cook while drinking a good beer, and listening to music loudly.
