I am chivalrous, oblivious, and humorous.
My Self-Summary
I hate writing about myself. It would be far easier to let someone
else describe me. Therefore, I am bringing my plant over to
describe me...
...
Well, that pretty much says it all. Thank you Mr. Plant for your
time.
I should probably add that my plant was a little reserved when it
spoke just now. Next time, I'll try to coax a little more out of
it.
Until then, I guess I'll take over. I'm a guy who is most often
either confused, lost, or laughing at myself and the situations I
get myself in. I like the way this site labels me as "introverted,"
I guess they didn't have a category for, "incredibly shy hermit who
has difficulty talking to people outside of a work
environment."
It is annoying to think that I can only usually talk to new people
when I am at work. Maybe there is a switch in my head that goes
into professional mode or something... I wish I could find that
switch; it would make finding friends easier.
What I’m doing with my life
Waiting... A few years ago I worked as an Air Traffic Controller
with ZMP in Farmington, MN. I worked traffic over the Green
Bay-Central Wisconsin-Hayward-Marquette area. I loved it! Sadly,
through various personnel/paperwork/political issues, I was "washed
out" of the center. The crappy part is that I was unable to
transfer to a different facility due to a single rule in a human
resources order (unnecessary due to the short staffing in ATC right
now). Now I'm sitting here on my @$$ waiting for a possible
"rehire" into the FAA again. I am trying to stay optimistic, but I
know how ridiculous things can get.
Until I can get my life back onto its rail, I'm returning to
another job I loved. I'm back with the University of North Dakota,
teaching/assisting in the air traffic control program. I get to
play around in the labs and teach the intro ATC class. Working with
my own students is amazingly rewarding. I'm looking forward to
getting back in the classroom.
I’m really good at
1-liner jokes, tripping on things, making an ass out of myself, and
being tall. Oh, and apparently hugging... Not sure how or why, but
that's what I've have been told.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm real big... 6'5" last time I checked. I had to stop checking as
clothes were getting hard enough to find without it getting any
worse.
I usually have to duck to miss hitting my head on low objects like
ceiling fans, tree branches, and some door jams. Sometimes it is
painful to be tall.
Second thing people notice, is how I don't actually fit in the
small corner I'm trying to hide in. If I am out in the room with
everyone else, I tend to act more like a wall than anything else. I
have yet to get a picture or calendar pinned to me, but it is only
a matter of time.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Any number of different fantasy/sci-fi authors like
Jim Butcher,
David
Eddings,
Gordon R. Dickson,
Tolkien,
Rowling work for me. I have also
enjoyed reading various mystery and war stories.
Movies: WAY too many to list... Current favorites are
The Hunt for
Red October,
Ghostbusters, the
Star Wars movies,
Die Hard,
Appaloosa, and
Tommy Boy.
Music: Changes hourly... Current favorites are
Evanescence,
St. Olaf Choir (geek, I
know),
Stabbing Westward,
Apocolyptica,
Twisted
Sister, and
Kelly Clarkson.
Food:
Italian,
Salads,
Grilling, you name it!
The six things I could never do without
1) Friends -> They are the people who help keep me "sane."
2) Family -> They are the people who drag me back down into
insanity.
3) Hugging -> These are the magical cure for anything (sadness,
a sore knee, even sanity [wait, does that mean it drives people
crazy?]).
4) My Computer -> This is the doorway to all the wonderful
knowledge and ideas that our species can come up, and a staggering
amount of porn!
5) My DVD Collection -> These are my little escape instruments.
I can lose myself in a different place, a different time, even a
different person. I think books, TV, and movies are some of the
best ways of expanding the creative side of your mind. That sounds
close to cultish/fanaticish language, but it gets the point
across.
6) Sleep - This is where I spend some quality time with that
creative side of my mind. One second I am painting a picture of a
horse on the side of a horse and the next I am running away from 18
foot tall scorpions with my cat's face on them. Now THAT's is good
entertainment.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think about what I am supposed to say when people ask me what I
spend a lot of time thinking about. It turns out, I think about
various witty comments for online profiles. I'm sure this skill
could someday save the world!
Now when Commissioner Gordon calls Batman to text Superman to tell
him to get a message to Spiderman, through the Green Lantern, that
the world is in trouble, I can be there to make fun of it!
On a typical Friday night I am
As I am not much of a party'er, there isn't much to put in here.
The problem I'm running into is that this lack of anything close to
social activity usually spreads to the rest of the weekend. I am
looking around for something I can do on the weekend that involves
people!!! There are obvious budget issues involved in most things,
but I'm trying to get creative. Any ideas???
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Being shy sucks!! It's hard to meet people!! I guess that is not
really private, but I guess it helps lead to private-ness.
Was that a good enough way of getting around the question? I didn't
want to come out and say, "just ask me." I wanted to turn it into a
semantic argument. I'm weird like that.
You should message me if
You feel like it. Or if you could use a good laugh (at me or just
in general).
