What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics. As of yet I don't know whether I'd prefer a life in Academia or Industry, but I love what I'm doing and right now that's what matters most to me!

Oh boy, where to start?

Although the amount of time I can devote to reading for pleasure has dropped significantly in grad school, I always have been, and always will be, an avid reader. Mainly I read fantasy/horror/sci-fi, although I guess that I'm a bit dry when it comes to my favorites in those genres. I am a HUGE Tolkien fan, so don't get me started on Middle-Earth unless you want an ear-full. Other than Tolkien, I enjoy the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith (easily one of my favorites), Robert E. Howard, Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Leguin, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and others.

My taste in movies reflects my literary favorites but I'll list a few of my favorite directors: John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, Guillermo del Toro, George Romero, Sergio Leone, and others. In terms of film genres, I like campy horror and spaghetti westerns as well.

I don't watch TV much at all, because I usually don't have the time, but I make sure to tune in to The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Adventure Time when they are on.

As for music, I listen to a few different genres. I love the blues, and a bit of bluegrass and folk, as well as classic heavy metal and psychedelic rock. I enjoy some electronic music, and classical music as well, and have recently developed a taste for retro synth-pop. Sometimes while studying I like to listen to movie soundtracks, and I usually go with composers like Ennio Morricone and Basil Poledouris.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
In no particular order: board games, the internet, company, something to write on.

I'm having trouble thinking of something else other than obvious essentials like family/food/Mr Bean/etc.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I think about math and physics quite a bit due to my studies. I think about Outer Space quite a bit too, even if my knowledge regarding it isn't very specific. I suppose I'm a daydreamer as well, as I like to imagine fantastic scenarios. I'd like to write a book about those thoughts some day.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I like to spend some time unwinding after a likely hectic week, but usually I also end up working on research or grading anyways.

That sounds pretty lame I guess, but I do try to find time for myself or for friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't really have anything to hide I guess. Just ask. I only have one skeleton in my closet but that's a Halloween decoration. Also it's not actually in my closet, it's in the attic.

If you want to talk Tolkien, tesseracts, blues, boardgames, stringed instruments, string theory (just kidding, no one understands that), legos, Laplace, Lothlorien, or the Land of Ooo, send me a message!
