My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
To get the basic stuff out of the way - I'm single, a native New Yorker (grew up in the Village in fact), drama free, live alone in Manhattan, bright, launder myself frequently, kind (although a bit debaucherous - but only if I know you well), have a job and support myself. I'm housebroken. Oh, and since it seems so oddly important, I don't like serial commas (as you'll see - I'd rather just be aware of apposition), I know my homophones and yes, I'm actually 5'10". Hell of a catch? Yeah...whatever...

Oh, I look very much like Kiefer Sutherland (if that's your thing).

The order in which I read the NYT (online): World, Arts, Science, Sports, Movies, Politics, Top News, Technology, Books, Theater, Opinion, NY/Region.

I'm irreverent, irrepressible, impulsive, INFP and XKCD. All trapped in a nice guy personality. Potentially too nice maybe...but wait till you get to know me before you pass too harsh a judgment on that. Remember, I'm still a native here.

With that out of the way....and if you want to know more and feel like reading awhile, just pull up a chair and grab some popcorn. Here is the rest of me:

I've been a musician, an actor, a stockbroker, an accountant and now I'm a writer (poetry, comedy, non-fiction) and when I need to whore, fad science books, grant proposals and RFPs, and I'm a also game designer (no, not computer games - but the pieces, board and dice type things). I actually love what I do now and wouldn't trade it for anything. It is incredibly cool to wake up in the morning and look forward to the one minute commute to my desk in my apartment. Sometimes, it can take up to 5 minutes if I stop to make coffee - but I manage to deal.

Pop culture stuff:

Books: Favs include Godel, Escher, Bach; All the King's Men; Winter's Tale for just a few...on my e-nightstand currently: The Quincunx That Ate the Universe: A Real Theory of Everything; The God Delusion; The Fabric of the Cosmos and Diary of an Economic Hitman.

Movies: Children of Paradise, 8 1/2, Pi, Lost Highway, Wages of Fear, Repulsion, Ran, Floating Weeds, La Belle et la Bête, Come and See, The Human Condition, Elephant, documentaries, anything by Greenaway, the colors trilogy (White, Red, and Blue), Kubrick, Ken Russell films - generally pretentious and overly artistic seems to work well for me...I watch too many movies.

Music: all types - from classical to pop. Even some decent country (like Iris Dement, The Mavericks, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash). I have a weakness for, ahem, Herb Albert. See below for a random list of stuff on my iPod

Food: I like it spicier than anyone you've ever met but outside of that pretty much anything except for two odd things - dislike fake mint in desserts (like mint ice cream) and dislike Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (the blue box stuff)...hard to believe how often I run into that stuff...but I can't stand it.

TV: You know I've read a bunch of studies about TV shows and how like-minded people pick the same shows and it's an excellent predictor of compatibility so of course my favorite show is one I've never seen on any list....gulp, yes, I stand alone. My favorite show is Nova - the PBS science thing. Oh, the Brit equivalent show Horizon too.

Updated - why not, bored...
Threw the iPod on shuffle and got this as the next ten:
Sheena is a Parasite - The Horrors
Today - Plan 13
Let's Make Love - Fourplay
In My Bones - Groove Armada
The Stops - Elbow
Guys Eyes - Animal Collective
Figure 8 - Trust Company
Parasites - Ugly Casanova
It's Raining Again - Supertramp
Narayan - The Prodigy

Yes, my music taste is astounding. Oh and if you want a drinking game that doesn't take too long, take a shot every time you read the word "eclectic" when describing music tastes here...hic....
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Cake or death? Um, cake please.

Living the sitcom also known as internet dating. Whew...the comedy is just writing itself.

I write, I make games, I do volunteer work helping kids in my neighborhood and I wriggle my toes under the blanket and laugh at my cat when he pounces on them. Not a bad life at all.

I'm a little too sesquipedalian. I don't mean to be...just how I talk.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I pretty much kick ass at any game...I'm somewhat of a cardsharp but also good at parlor games (like Scrabble), and's a professional advantage. Just don't take losing personally and you'll be fine.

I can make the best cup of coffee you've ever had. Damn, I can make a good cup o' joe.

I'm a decent cook - and more than burgers, spaghetti and eggs.

Oh, I can snap my fingers really loudly. It's a gift and a curse.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Excuse me, my eyes are up here young lady.

My hair and my great speaking voice (think FM radio). I give decent eye if you can't see them.

I'm a pro at esprit de l'escalier. I've taken it to an art form in fact.
Damn, I should have mentioned it earlier...

(Does anyone get that last joke? It's very least now you've been warned)

Topical joke of the day:

The bartender looks up and says "I'm sorry, we don't allow faster-than-light neutrinos in here."

A faster-than-light neutrino walks into a bar.

I guess I should be OK with showing some of the not-so-great things about me. Of course, I'll do it in a subtle way...

This song scares this me? I dunno but it scares me more than it probably should...

You know how the Warner Brothers cartoon guys are usually described? Bugs Bunny is the one we all wish we were and Daffy Duck is the one that we all fear we really are?

Along those lines, Paul Simon writes and sings about all the things I love about myself - my romanticism, my intellectualism, my happiness and my idealism. Kurt Cobain on the other hand is the dark stuff. My doubt, unease, worry, fear, dissatisfaction with my life and worry that I haven't done enough to justify the gifts with which I have been blessed.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
If you're into sports, my teams are Mets, Jets, Knicks, Rangers and the Tar Heels (went there - it's an obligation)..

For fun games when my teams lose to yours, the ones I hate are Dook and all the Philly teams. I've been taught how to payoff over the years by experts.

For those of you into more than my age and height, here are some definers for you:

Coffee, not tea.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How can people get through life without once wondering where seedless oranges come from? I was 6 when this odd question gobsmacked me and I had to find out.

Or how people are positively Edwardian when they walk into each other ("oh, my fault. Please, after you...") but put them behind a wheel and they become Nazis out to kill the first grandmother they can find.

Getting a black cat and naming it Shaft. Or a Siamese and naming it Chairman Meow. I resist - a boy with one cat is already trouble to some. I really just want to name it anyway...not really into cleaning a litter box every 15 minutes. I'm weakening though. My cat suffers from rather severe separation anxiety and really could use the company - and my legs could do without all the biting and scratching when I'm about to go out.

Or people that get every thinly veiled IQ question wrongly here yet want to sterilize all low IQ people - and for the cherry on top, want to have children.

Or that American stupid people sound stupider than other stupid people.

Or my next book.

Or how can people fall asleep driving? You're sort of doing something important and worth staying awake what's the deal?

How to fit in my favorite words into things I write. I managed to sneak in a few here.

Usually though, it is all of these plus a few hundred more at the same time.

I don't sleep much.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
OK, the fact that it's Friday doesn't really mean shit to me but ok, it varies...but this particular Friday night, I'm jamming to some iTunes (genius list based on an old but great Toad song), sipping decent bourbon, reading profiles on OKC, writing this silly thing here...

I'll open up a bottle of red and put on a movie shortly.

It's often's sometimes worse...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My porn name (first pet, childhood street) - Fasty Telegraph.

(yeah, I was 4 and Fasty fit a rabbit I guess...and who knew that I'd need a decent porn name in the future - fucking parents could have warned me). Telegraph Ave is for my hip Berkeley period. I was a kid and my mom was getting her PhD.

Fasty ran (hopped?) away. I'm still damaged.

Oh, quirks? Let's see...I eat lots of things with chopsticks (not just Chinese food but also pasta, salad, french fries or whatever works better with them). I also hate umbrellas...don't own one and never will.

I'm becoming more and more fastidious as I get older. Let me get you a coaster.

I find ice cream trucks really creepy.

I want to get a dog.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
Well, if you do have that reaction, consider therapy first - but if that doesn't work, I'd love to hear from you.

I know how this works - you read a profile and you just have to meet that person; I've been there, you've been there. Go ahead and write me. If you're shy and can't do it, I use the star thingy here and if I've looked at you, I've likely marked you as someone I'd love to know more about...give me 4 or 5 and see what happens - you'll know and I'll write you.

I don't want to turn anyone off but if you're conservative, religious, an objectivist or uneducated, we are likely not a great match. Extenuating circumstances might be there of course but well, you know how it is.

Not to end on a negative note, on the more positive side, if you're into more refined culture (like opera, ballet, live classical music, poetry, etc.) and can also dig less refined stuff (like the petting zoo, a dive bar, a baseball game or a decent amusement park), that would be great. I'd love some company to play at either being adults or kids (preferably both).

Need an icebreaker? A hundred 85 year old women and a hundred 15 year old girls were asked the question "What's the most important quality in a mate to you"? The majority in both groups answered the same thing - what did they both say?

Yeah, I just came back and need new pics...soon, promise...the body's better but the hair is grayer. The DL pic is me...that's exactly how I look; facial hair and all.
