My Self-Summary

Well, I'm just this guy, you know? There's not much to say about me: if you've met one nerdy political progressive ftm transgender queer vegan disabled bible geek, you've met them all! I was born in, raised in, currently live in, and yes, even mostly enjoy Binghamton; it's quite small and very cheap, and I know there are lots of smart, cool, cute, kind, funny, radical, competitive, literary, queer, and otherwise interesting people here, because I'm slowly but steadily unearthing them. I'm always into everything, my latest adventures revolve around food (growing it, gathering it, cooking it, eating it), my body (watching it, using it, pushing it, showing it off), expanding experimental definitions of love, and singing in the church choir. I do not sing well, but I don't believe in waiting till I'm any good at something to give it a go anymore. Wasted too much time on that already.

I don't actually need to disclaimer this, but just to be extra clear: I am trans, and I have an amazing boyfriend. It's not complicated, or dramatic. Really I'm just looking for cool people to do stuff with: talk, eat, drink, watch movies, play games, build things, cuddle, fool around.

What I’m doing with my life

I work with queer and allied youth, hopefully helping them learn to be safe, proud, healthy and happy. I also read and write quite a bit. I'm reclaiming my Christian heritage, in my very own queer little way. I dig the idea that every day I get to choose again what I'm doing with my life- everyone deserves to be free.

I’m really good at

Writing, arguing, sitting quietly, giving head, vegan cooking, making meaning out of suffering, making a fool of myself, making it up as I go along, taking care of sick or hurting friends, living thriftily, trying to be cool but getting all excited like a dork, feeding people I like, pancakes, being polite when I want to, not shaving.

The first things people usually notice about me

My huge wolf-like dog, blue eyes.

My left-sided smirk.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love old romantic comedies like The Apartment and His Girl Friday. Cary Grant is dreamy. My Dinner With Andre and brainy pretentious stuff like that is great, too. Horsefeathers. Like all geeks, I enjoy Douglas Adams and Doctor Who: I've read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy many times but I like Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency even more, and my favorite Doctor is Sylvester McCoy, but Chris Eccleston is hot. I love to read and write creative non-fiction, my favorite writers include S.J. Perelman, Nancy Mairs and Anne Lamott; right now I can't get enough Michael Pollan. I don't read a ton of fiction (though I'd like to!) but I've read Umberto Eco's The Name of The Rose quite a few times, love it. My musical tastes are too humiliatingly dorky to list, maybe later. I love to cook simple foods, just a few veggies, grains, spices. Let me take you out for Thai food, or Korean, I'm a vegan who loves tofu green curry!

I love Tom Lehrer and Allan Sherman, though I'm a bit afraid of what you might think this says about me. Satelliteboy assures me it will only make you think better of me!

The six things I could never do without

Curry. Jeans. The Internet. Chick Peas. Truth. Beauty.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything.

My job, "queer", gender and transgender, literacy and orality, constraints and strengths of different media, the "news", "language is constitutive", camping, general artificial intelligence, stigma, civil rights, disability, discourse communities, what's for dinner?, living cheaply, daddies and bois, baldur's gate, the history and culture of the Binghamton area, what's next on my netflix queue?

On a typical Friday night I am

Working. Sometimes I can skip out to play board games with friends, or catch a movie, or stay home and read.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have never kissed a girl.

There's a lot of embarrassing stuff I could list here: like I listen to the Stephanie Miller Show, or I play World of Wacraft, or I overuse emoticons, but I won't. :p
