I love Kubrik's "The Shining" for what it is: a brilliantly crafted and extremely efficient terror delivery system. "Children of Men" for it's unflinching, brutal sense of hope. "China Town" for making me feel like a detective, even if being a detective in that movie doesn't feel particularly good. "The Woman in the Dunes" because geez Louise those actors deserved Oscars for getting so sandy.
Kinda been obsessed with "Bob's Burgers" lately. I didn't really care until someone pointed out that it's the one show where the family actually likes one another. It may sound silly but I think Bob's Burgers is a fantastic case study in ideal forms of family dynamics, romantic love, and self-esteem.
Music wise: Okkervil River, Queens of the Stoneage, Los Campesinos!, Eliot Smith... lately, I can't get enough of Godspeed You! Black Emperors, though it does irritate me a bit how they punctuate their name...
And maybe a Gallo dry salami and a 2 liter of Coca Cola. Surprisingly, I could actually live without wine, though I might have a harder time making a living...
