My Self-Summary

I love my cat and OPB radio. If you hate cats and OPB, we won't get along. If you love cats and love OPB, that wins you huge points in my book. I also love meeting people, biking, hiking, reading, learning languages, and enjoying/playing music. I have been known to do these things quite a lot.

I grew up in Southern California and moved up to Portland for college, and I've stayed. I've worked several different types of jobs (teaching, bookkeeping, non-profit admin). I've decided to teach long-term because I love it.

What I’m doing with my life

learning to be a teacher (working and going to school), reading a lot, drinking coffee, watching movies and hulu with my cat, riding my bike, etc.

This summer: Reading a lot, drinking iced coffee, anticipating Fall with its crisp air, school's early days, and orange leaves.

I’m really good at

reading, learning languages, traveling, playing music (ok at).

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: widespread, mostly literature or non-fiction. Bellow, Austen, Joyce, Woolf, Russians, etc.
movies: classics, ones Rotten Tomatoes likes. Think Hitchcock, the Hepburns, Cary Grant, and foreign films.
music: folk, with cellos, and many other things, like jazz. not rap or electronica.
food: almost anything that isn't fast. I usually cook and bake from scratch.

I like to talk about books and movies. If you can talk about cooking, I will listen. If you like to talk about bands, I will call you a hipster.

The six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about

teaching, literacy, numeracy, Oregon history, people, politics, the news, The New Yorker, NPR, books, riding my bike, getting outside...

On a typical Friday night I am

going to McMenamins-style theaters, out to dinner, to a brewery or wine bar, but I also love sitting at home or throwing a dinner party. I like to play card and board games, and watch movies. I try to get outdoors once a week: I like hiking, camping, and biking. Simple pleasures.
