My self-summary
I like stories almost more than anything in the world. Hearing them, telling them...living them. Moral philosopher, eventual professor. North Carolina native. Thankfully, I inherited the gene for southern hospitality instead of the stereotypical hypocrisy. I also have the "college basketball is a religion" trait. Proud member of the Wolfpack.

I travel whenever I get the chance, have a dog that I adore more than reason allows, read my favorite books over and over, and I believe, like my two favorite doctors, that there is no problem that a good cup of tea can't fix. INTJ. Sarcasm is my comfort zone. The best moments in life are accompanied by a soundtrack, and even my cleaning sprees tend to morph into one woman dance parties. Life is fun. I like to keep it that way.

*I am currently living in Raleigh. I visit Baltimore regularly, but won't be permanently relocated until August. I have obligations in NC until the end of May, but I'll be working on the eastern shore (Chestertown) for the summer, then it's Baltimore for good.
What I’m doing with my life
Small scale? Learning, teaching, playing with my puppy.

Grand scale? Saving the world, one student at a time. I truly believe that the best way to end needless prejudice and intolerance is to educate...so I'm an educator.
I’m really good at
I'm best at teaching, great at writing, and a little too competitive at board games...but I'm decent nonetheless. I'm also pretty talented at listening, telling stories, playing Phase 10, research, verbal articulation, planning vacations, and Jeopardy during college week.

One thing I'm not great at: Talking about how awesome I am. And, therefore, filling out this section. Also, writing my resume.
The first things people usually notice about me
I get "smile" as a frequent answer to this question. But as far as personality goes, I am pretty friendly, so I put people at ease. Also, I'm southern. My accent's not strong, but it's still there.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have so many favorite books. My tastes are pretty eclectic, and I have several full bookcases in my house as well as a few hundred books on my kindle. I've probably read the Kushiel's Legacy series 10 times, I have every book Tom Clancy has ever written, I often reread books that I read as a child (A Wrinkle in Time will always have my heart), if I had to choose only one book to take with me to a desert island, it would probably be Brave New World, and Buffy and Philosophy is at the top of my "to read" list.

I prefer TV to movies because the stories last longer, and I have quite a collection of TV on DVD. I like sci-fi, so give me a vampire (slayer) or zombie and I'm happy. The Walking Dead pretty much continually blows my mind; How I Met Your Mother, Community, The Big Bang Theory, New Girl and The League never fail to make me laugh; Once Upon a Time is fairy tale redemption; I learned everything I need to know about survival in life from Sydney Bristow of Alias; LOST will forever be one of the most amazing experiences of my life; and I plan on calling out sick the day Netflix releases the new 10-episode season of Arrested Development. I'm also recently obsessed with Doctor Who, which pretty much puts my geek card at a full count, but I'm not too upset about that.

I love music of almost every kind, but my favorite genres are 80s rock, 90s alternative, and anything indie/folky. I love Etta James, City and Colour, The Script, Ed Sheeran, Florence + the Machine, Kate Voegele, Hootie and the Blowfish, Glen Hansard, Bryan Adams, Jonny Lang, Gavin Degraw, Levi Kreis, Tyler Hilton, Blackmore's Night, Jason Mraz, Old Crow Medicine Show, Mumford & Sons, Counting Crows...and so many more. My top three favorite songs are "Imagine" by John Lennon, "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas, and "Fairytale" by Sara Bareilles.

I like variety in food, but my favorite types are Mediterranean, sushi, and Indian. I don't care to eat at chain restaurants, so I'm lucky that I live in a city with unique places to try.
The six things I could never do without
~Chapstick. I honestly buy it in bulk.
~Books. I'll be disappointed if I don't own a house with a library one day.
~Caffeine. Mostly coffee, but I also dig hot tea.
~The beach. It's the one place I'm the most at peace.
~Music. The most vivid memories always have a soundtrack.
~Sunglasses. My eyes are incredibly sensitive to light, so I often wear my sunglasses even when it's raining.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
If I got into a machine that made an EXACT replica of me, memories and scars and dislike for spaghetti included, which one of us would be me? Or would we both be me?

What is my dog thinking when she tilts her head to the side and looks so darn cute that it hurts?

I used to think a lot about which superpower I would have if I could choose, but I settled on teleportation. Now I think a lot about how much I wish I could teleport.

Also, it's been years at this point, but I still can't really decide how I feel about the finale to LOST.
On a typical Friday night I am
Playing catch with my dog, opening a bottle of wine, watching the week's tv shows, traveling and exploring new places, snuggling with a good book and a cup of hot tea when it's cold. Who needs a typical Friday night?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I love my pjs more than any other clothing I own. I only wear regular clothes when I must, so as soon as I come home from school or work, I change. If I don't leave the house for an entire day, I stay in my pjs. I don't wear them in public, so no worries there, but sometimes I wish I could. The only time I don't wear my pjs at home is when I'm sleeping...then I don't wear anything at all. What can I say? I like being comfy. :)

You should message me if
Definitely message me if you are open-minded and adventurous, unafraid to be who you are, and live as if there is something more to life than just surviving from day to day. Bonus points for stopping to smell the flowers, taking the road less traveled, making the most of every moment, and not judging me for using a string of cliches.

Also, feel free to send me humorous anecdotes and fascinating tales of adventure. Like most other humans, I like to be entertained. ;)
