and seeing the good things in the evil rainbows
Audio books also rule! (so I guess they co-rule)
Currently reading/listening to: Animal Farm (Orwell) - great again!, White Plume Mountain (Kidd), Rally Cry (Forstchen), Reluctant Fundamentalist (Hamid), If This isn't Nice, What is? (Vonnegut)
Finished recently and would be into chatting about:
Geomancer (Irvine) - what a disappointing ending [I do not think I will continue the series!], The Name of The Wind (Rothfuss), Abundance (Diamandis & Kotler), The Four Agreements (Ruiz), One Red Paperclip (MacDonald), A Moveable Feast (Hemingway), and Open Veins of Latin America (Galeano), The Hot Kid and Up in Honey's Room (Leonard), Swords Against Death and Swords of Deviltry (Leiber), Candide and Zadig (Voltaire), Happy Thoughts and True Stories I Made Up (Tosh).
Biographies are also ruling! (recently: Keith Richards, Prince, Miles Davis, Theodore Roosevelt, James K. Polk, )
Symphony of Science
"I know the molecules in my body are traceable phenomenon in the cosmos; that makes me want to grab people in the street and say 'have you heard this!?'" - Neil deGrasse Tyson
"The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it, but the way those atoms are put together." - Carl Sagan
Segway into total awesomeness:
Fu Manchu - The Action Is Go
Breakbot (They did in one album what Daft Punk are still trying to do after 5 albums)
Disclosure, Kola Papass and the Funky Family, Capitol Cities. Dance music that has a foundation in real instruments.
Breaking, popping, locking
Nostalgia: Tool, Adam Ant, The Cure, The Great Gatspy, Endless Summer, NIN, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Led Zep, Alice in Chains (ok, I was pretty into grunge), Tribe Called Quest, Eazy-MF-E, Ice Cube, Digable Planets, Joan Jet, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, AD+D, Gamma World, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, 80s one-hit wonders (like Saga - On The Loose!), Michael Jackson, Now-and-laters, video arcades, etx...
I love the details, the nuances, the references, the cameos, the progression, the digression, the narrative tweaks and the innuendos.
Jodorowsky, Foreman, Almodovar and Goddard are probably my favorite relationship film directors. They set up situations and capture the magic. Par contre, Spielberg, Mendez and Eastwood are really not my type of directors. And then there is Antonioni:
French cuisine is among my favorites. Thai, sushi, Mexican are others I like too, but hard to find Mexican in Montreal that is not Texmex, which I don't like.
Fruit and smoothies for breakfast. More papaya please!
what makes people tick.
