My self-summary
Curious, thoughtful, and snarky. Caught somewhere between normal and nerd. Nerd meaning I love to quote movies and TV in conversation, I enjoy school, and I can be a teensy bit of a grammar nazi. I am not a gamer. But I definitely have a huge adoration for Game of Thrones... don't judge!

Things I like: Developmental and clinical psychology. Yoga. Tennis. Kayaking. Going to good shows/concerts. Dancing of all kinds (swing, blues and salsa mostly, but I'd really like to get back into tap, tango, and modern at some point). Scottish Fold cats. Seeing plays in Ashland during the summer with my family. Playing bridge (the card game- NOT just for old people). Compulsively making to-do lists in my Google calendar. Occasionally appreciating/making connections with art. Watching far too many films. Engaging in philosophical conversations with little kids. Singing my heart out in the car and not worrying (too much) about whether the people around me think I'm ridiculous.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working on my masters in psychology research and nannying on the side. Aiming for an eventual doctorate in clinical psychology, and hoping to work with kids alone or with both kids and their parents. I basically want to be Supernanny the psychologist when I grow up :)
I’m really good at
recognizing faces and remembering where I've seen them before... usually :) I watch a lot of TV and movies, so that makes it easier to play this game often. P.S. You should watch this documentary with John Cleese called The Human Face. Yes, you. It's chock full of psychological awesomeness and dorky British humor, which are both huge plusses in my book.
The first things people usually notice about me
Who knows. I'm not a mind reader, though a psychologist is probably the closest thing there really is to one...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Snow Falling on Cedars, East of Eden, Sula, Clockwork Orange, Prelude by Katherine Mansfield, To the North by Elizabeth Bowen, Love's Executioner by Dr. Irvin Yalom, Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl, Ender's Game... I want to read more. Please provide suggestions.

I'm a non-pretentious movie-phile. Tops (but there are OH so many more...): The 7-Up Series, The 1940's House, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Company (2007), Donnie Darko, Easter Parade, Funny Girl, High Fidelity, Lady & the Tramp, Legally Blonde, Mad Hot Ballroom, Moliere, Mary Poppins, Monty Python's Life of Brian, Ms. Doubtfire, Pirates of Penzance, BBC's Pride and Prejudice, Proof, Sabrina (1954), Sense and Sensibility, Some Like It Hot, Stranger Than Fiction, To Be and To Have, Tootsie, Troop Beverly Hills, Up!, Up in the Air, and When Harry Met Sally.

TV: Gilmore Girls is my high school soul. More current loves: The Office, Game of Thrones, Girls (Season 1, not 2!), Breaking Bad, Sex and the City, Project Runway, Law & Order SVU, What Not To Wear, So You Think You Can Dance, Dead Like Me, Bones, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, Ace of Cakes, Modern Family, The Cosby Show, Long Island Medium, The Ellen Show, Full House, Arthur, Top Chef Masters (Rick Bayless and Jonathan Waxman are adorbs), My Cat from Hell, Criminal Minds, Portlandia, Call the Midwife.

Adding comedians, because I love good comedy: Louie CK, Amy Schumer, Steve Carell, Tim Minchin, Jim Gaffigan, Maria Bamford, Anna Kendrick, Emma Stone, Ellen Degeneres, Justin Timberlake, Demetri Martin, Aziz Ansari, Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal. Please send new suggestions anytime.

Music: Singable/danceable music is the best, and I am entirely unashamed of loving cheesy oldies. But I also appreciate music with more substance- always open new suggestions. Some faves: Metric, Garbage, Fleet Foxes, The Raveonettes, First Aid Kit, Silversun Pickups, The Black Keys, The XX, Pomplamoose... getting new mix CD's from friends is one of my favorite things.

Food: I'm a pretty picky eater, but I'm workin' on it. I used to say "I don't believe in acquired tastes," but the whole developing-vitamin-deficiencies thing makes it difficult to hold strong to that belief.
The six things I could never do without
1. Contacts (necessary for daily functioning.)
2. Friends, family, and social support in general.
3. Cashmere sweaters. Wearing a comfy sweater is like a full day hug.
4. Yoga or dancing. Stress-relieving and fun.
5. Humor, preferably the witty, intelligent, snarky kind.
6. Motivation. I don't know where I'd be without it, in any part of my life.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
a balanced mixture of important things and things that are completely silly. Like: my future, and why every main character in Disney movies has at least one absent parental figure. Note: I don't think about the latter very often, just in case you were wondering... haha.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm just as happy to go out on a weeknight. Who needs sleep anyway? I've also been known to have movie marathons or cleaning frenzies on weekend evenings... it's all about what's going on when and my mood. But when there is free evening time, it's often spent catching up with friends or dancing. Or doing homework, because... yeah. Such is life.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
That's a strange question, which I think I will skip. Take home message: I'm a pretty open person, but I'm not going to divulge my life story on this thing.

...Alternatively: I like 90's country music, and some newer stuff too. It was the only kind of music my family ever exposed me to, save for ABBA, James Taylor, and movie musicals. I (kind of) wish I was kidding.

Also, I suspect I may have a mild audio processing disorder haha. I hate not being able to hear what people right next to me are saying at big loud parties!
You should message me if
you feel so inclined :) More seriously though, if you are any moderately-comprehensive combination of the following: sweet and considerate, witty and funny, athletic and energetic, goal-oriented and driven, intelligent and thoughtful... maybe even slightly on the neurotic side... and you are a good mixture of child-at-heart and responsible, independent adult.
