My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.

-Cooking aka food experimentation. generally these are pretty successful. (want to be a guinea pig??)
-DIY/Creative projects (furniture assembly, generally being crafty... re-purposing stuff in very creative ways)
-Halloween (personally, I think we should do it at least twice a year.)
-Laughing. I try to get to the point where I can laugh at the absurdity, irony, and coincidences in life. It helps me not stress about them any more than I have to

reality tv (there may be one or two occasional exceptions)
fanaticism (pretty much about anything)
unnecessary drama
loud clubs, big crowds (unless I'm watching from a distance..)
people who use "text speak" for everything. We're adults (mostly). Use your words!!
Anything that takes itself to seriously (including people)

Fun Facts:
-Ran away with the circus after college (sort of)
-Grew up on a small (but working) sheep farm... with sheepdogs... and only wood heat.
-I am "Auntie" to two human children and at least four canine children
- I can wiggle my nose
- I own WAY more books than shoes (but I have some pretty cute shoes)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
- My job is super demanding and exhausting and I love it, but my social life has lagged a lot because of it. Hoping things will calm down a little soon (but I've been saying that for year :-D). In any case, I resolve to go out more in 2014.

-Trying to improve my repertoire of dishes that I can cook. This got side-lined a bit with the Holidays (aka "baking season").

- Recently adopted two kittens (they now make you get two if you adopt from a shelter). They are highly entertaining. Also I'm pretty sure one of them is a puppy in disguise.

- In my free time I do genealogical research (for myself and I've recently started building my portfolio by doing some for my friends). It's a weird hobby, I know. But I've always had a thing for research and puzzles.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
-enabling mischief
-creative projects
- Putting together furniture (I speak Ikea! (this is not an option under languages, but it should be))
-putting people at ease
-making something out of very little (in a creative way, not in a psycho way)
-listening and offering awesome advice
-finding things
-crisis management and problem solving
- organizing social activities (camping/hiking trips, picnics, parties - i'm your logistics girl [also see: enabling mischief])
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
probably something clutzy that I just did.
Common Options:
- knocked something over by gesturing too wildly while telling a story
- tripped over something that probably wasn't really there
- ran into something (door frame, table corner) that was sticking out just a bit further than I thought

.... or, if you've entered the room after the fact, I'm the girl sitting in the middle of the floor laughing as her friends try to put her back on her feet....
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

- I don't watch a lot of tv so I like books I can blow through in an afternoon or an evening. Lately, I've been reading Jim Butcher, the Hunger Games, and (this should probably go in the most private thing I'm willing to admit) The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices and the Beautiful Creatures series.
- love and often re-read: Marion Zimmer Bradley, Patricia McKillip, Jane Yolen, Georgette Heyer, Grace Paley occasionally re-read Shakespeare, Chekhov. Really enjoyed Dandicat, Kingsolver & Allison. Strangely, I love Anthropology, mythology, comp. religion books. For Christmas I got "Lies My Teacher Told Me" and can't wait to dig in!

- Favorite movies of all time probably include: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Princess Bride, Muppets, The Mummy movies (they are silly and fun), SyFy's Alice & Tin Man. Serenity. Jane Austen books & Shakespeare's plays made into movies. Disney/Pixar, love superhero movies, the occasional chick flick, love a good spy flick/action movie, enjoy sci fi/fantasy

- Don't end up actually watching much tv except on Netflix to put me to sleep at night. When I do: Haven, How I Met Your Mother, Bones, Castle, The Daily Show,
-all time faves: Firely, Alias, SG-1, LOST, Dollhouse,
-will often throw procedural dramas (law and order, Criminal Minds, etc) on in the background when I'm researching or messing around on the interwebs.

- pretty much everything's a go from classical to rock, folk to pop (within reason). Love Irish music, classical (especially on a piano), jazz (though I never really got in to it), and older music. Haven't found a lot lately that's really grabbed me.

Food: I am going to find something awesome almost anywhere I go. Seriously. Always open to trying new things.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
easy access to nature
a chair on a porch
something to read
something to puzzle over
something to look forward to
my family (blood/legal family, adopted family, urban tribe, etc)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
-the people behind events (historical or modern) and their motivations. I like the "why" behind everything and the "people aspect".
- anything that's a puzzle at that moment (how to rearrange my room more efficiently, if I can make a canopy of branches and twinkle lights for a party, my halloween costume, what to get my nieces for christmas etc.)
- pretty much anything that catches my attention (what kind of bird was that? how did I get that spot on my skirt? what should I cook for dinner? Do I need to stop for wine on the way home?)
-that OKC's "style guide" uses the word awesomesauce
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
- doing something low-key at home with a friend or two: sitting on the roof or porch, making food, catching up, drinking some wine
- dinner and/or a couple drinks out
- running errands that I've been putting off all week
- on my way out of town (usually to Vermont to see the Fam)

3 things:

- Despite just about all appearances, I'm actually an introvert and very shy. This comes as a shock to many people because I appear to be out-going and chatty.
- Also, I'm still pretty confused by many of the subtleties of Ok Cupid. For example, "choosing" someone or "rating" them? Best to just send a message....
- I want to learn to do the Charleston

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You are going to say more than "hey", "hi", or "nice smile". Seriously. This is flattering, but I never have the foggiest idea how to respond.

You are some combination of:

- like animals
- love the outdoors (woods, mountains, ocean, etc)
- friendly towards strangers
- reliable, reasonable and reasonably responsible
- curious
- eager to laugh and/or are funny yourself
- goofy
