My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I don't have any selfies of myself in the mirror. I feel like that's a big thing for guys on here, and an even bigger irritant to women on here. I hope that wins me a few brownie points (admittedly, that's a low bar...).

My name is Phil. I'm an outgoing guy, genuine, affectionate, intelligent, and very good at conversation. I like discovering new music, hiking, cooking, watching movies, politics, writing and just talking and getting to know people. I'm a bit nerdy about things like Lord of the Rings, New York City history and astronomy. I'm not a snob in terms of beer or wine, but I am in terms of pizza and bagels. I've started getting into rock climbing recently as well as distance running. I'm from New York originally, near NYC, and I've been down in the D.C. area for seven years now and plan on staying for a while.

Also, Aaron is my middle name, just fyi.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work as an online journalist covering the technology industry and I recently finished getting my MA in international affairs, so I'm looking to do something with that in or out of the government. When I'm not preoccupied with that I like to explore, find new restaurants, go hiking when the weather is nice, meet new people, and think about things like this:
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, listening, trivia, telling you why you shouldn't get that smartphone--but should get *that one* instead, suggesting good music to listen to, finding great brunch spots, being there.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Physically: My glasses and my smile.
Personality-wise: I'm an attentive listener. I've been told I "give good email."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.

Too many to count, but favorites include: There Will be Blood, The Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride, Pulp Fiction, Contact, The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, WALL-E, Dr. Strangelove, Up, Blazing Saddles, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Airplane!, French Kiss (for a very sentimental reason), 12 Years a Slave and Inside Out.

An amazing cheeseburger; mouth-watering pasta in really creamy vodka-style sauces; warm naan bread; broccolini.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Friends and family don't really count for this exercise:

1. Wonder and awe in life (especially from new knowledge or experiences)
2. Natural beauty (especially the leaves changing color in the fall)
3. Travel
4. Good music
5. Reading the news/knowing what's going on in the world (which, these days, necessitates an Internet connection)
6. Companionship/contact with others and hopefully laughter therein
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
how to be a better writer, a better friend and a better person. The stars, and how every atom in our bodies once came from an exploding star. And Betty, she's smokin'.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either out with friends in D.C. (since, curiously, no one likes to hang out in Old Town), or collapsed in bed from the week, or perhaps enjoying a night in with a glass of wine and a movie or book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once had a giant afro. Huge.

you want to meet up and not just be pen pals. I'm looking for someone to hopefully click with and find something meaningful and long-lasting with after that.

I think I'm a catch, and hopefully you do as well.
