My self-summary
The better part of my twenties was devoted to Peace Corps and grad school (small-town Ukraine, MFA in Playwriting, respectively). As a consequence I feel like less of an established adult than others my age, but also that I have a lot more stories involving borshch and the pet bears of oligarchs.

I travel light. Learning about the world, trying to understand people, cultures and systems beyond my own experience, and rediscovering the familiar are general guiding aims. I imagine and daydream and read books and write plays and devour narrative television and consider the implications and limits of empathy. I can spend a reeeeal long time staring into space. But in conversation I'm forthcoming with both thoughts and jokes.

At some point, when one has known me long enough, I will begin to point out when words are anagrams of other words.

I'm drawn to nerdish types who value integrity, curiosity and hilarity. Also those who don't message asking to meet up "tonight."
What I’m doing with my life
Los Angeles is my latest adventure and challenge. I'm here for my writing career and to inject some change into my Midwestern-born, East-Coast-adapted, post-Soviet-respecting blood. (Place comes up a lot with me, as do compound modifiers.) There's no program or built-in expiration date to my time here, so that's exciting / alarming.
I’m really good at
Saying words backwards
Writing postcards without a rough draft
Traveling in the former USSR
Word games
Remembering my dreams
Guessing people's Myers-Briggs profiles
Not wasting things
The first things people usually notice about me
According to my mother, the scar from my college eyebrow piercing and my prematurely grey strands of hair.

But it's probably, you know, not that.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Les Miserables is my favorite book. (And musical. I am devoted to it and will not apologize. It has everything I love, mainly poverty, oppression, violence and singing.) Other authors I return to often are Dostoyevsky, James Baldwin, Chaim Potok, Toni Morrison and Salman Rushdie. But I read widely and often randomly. Novels and essays preferred.

Favorite TV Shows Emeritus: The West Wing, The Simpsons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Veronica Mars. Recent Favorites: Parks & Rec, Mad Men. Currently Watching: The Americans, Orphan Black, Game of Thrones, Sherlock.

Music-wise I've already gotten Les Miserables out of the way, so I'll say...random mix of indie, classic rock, pop, hip-hop and assorted Pandora playlists? (....and Hamilton.)

Food. I am a vegan. Let us agree here that I will not hassle you about your food choices and you will not harangue me about protein. I love bread. I love vegetables. I love fruit and grapes above all fruits. Herbs and spices, yes. Let us give honor and praise to the versatility of the chickpea.
The six things I could never do without
Music while driving
Toast
Books (not the e-kind, but real ones with pages, covers, colors and spines)
Pictures of baby goats
Coffee
Change
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future. The patriarchy. Structural racism. But *could* I keep a goat as a pet? Theater. And also why we shouldn't have nation-states.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hangin, chillin, little bit of illin.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Everything on here is the most private thing I'm willing to admit.
You should message me if
You're a queer chick or open-minded fellow (or non-binary! cool too!) whose messages are not copy-pasted.

You grant others courtesy and compassion.

You appreciate, but do not scrutinize, enthusiastic dancing.

You want to go see a play.*

Last thing: I don't have a lot of dating and relationship experience -- not for any dramatic reasons, just cause that's how it goes sometimes. Now you know! And it needn't be a weird first-date revelation that interrupts our discussion of racism and anagrams and whatever weird shit you're into. [insert your joke about why I don't date more and let's move on]

*If you have tickets to Hamilton, disregard all other requirements.
