I want to travel the world, but would like to settle down some day on a farm. I want to build an earthship and try living like a modern day pioneer living off grid. Practicing permaculture and learning more about how to use the dynamics of nature to design a self regenerating food system.
I like to spend my time hiking with my corgis and pondering the cosmos. A little bit John Muir, a little bit Carl Sagan. I enjoy thinking about theoretical science- pondering neuroscience, consciousness, time travel, star stuff, how to live more gently on this planet, seeking enlightenment through science. On the other side of the spectrum I'm very interested in history, spirituality, shamanism, natural medicine, politics, social justice and peace. Wow- I guess that sounds pretentious, but I'm constantly scribbling down ideas in a notebooks. Thinking about how to put these ideas into a story, or how to make things work better in the world around us. We don't have to take climate change as a bad thing, but can see it as a chance to rethink how we've been doing things and look for new solutions using cues from nature itself.
I'm a proud bleeding heart liberal and Feminist. I'm about to graduate from Kansas State University in History and Women's Studies. I also studied at Charles University in Prague. I'm not exactly sure where my future will take me- but I want to make a difference, to help people, be true to myself, have some fun, and world travel in the mix. I try to take everyday for the blessing it is and to delight in the simple joys of nature.
I'm an Italian Renaissance reenactor (Artemisia Scarlatti), where I get to explore my loves of making and wearing fancy clothes, the courtesan's arts, and meeting new people! I can tell you what type of plague it is by the symptoms, and how to brew your own mead.
I haven't had TV in over 6 years and I don't miss it...
If you are considering physical traits- I would say my eyes, my smile, and my ample bosom (especially if I am in my Italian Renaissance garb). I had some one walk into a light post once while gawking at my cleavage.
I'm an avid reader and probably own over a thousand books. I think nerd true love is really about merging book collections- you aren't going to take that lightly! I have so many books that I love, but I have a few I have to go back and read every couple of years- To Kill a Mockingbird, The God of Small Things, Gone with the Wind, Kindred, anything by Oscar Wilde, Agatha Christie, J.K. Rowling, F. Scott Fitzgerald, or Franz Kafka. I also love reading history the Victorian, Egyptian, Medieval and Renaissance, and early 20th century eras are of particular interests to me. Or anything pertaining to homesteading/off grid living (esp. permaculture).
I admit I am documentary junkie! Some of my favorites are Encounters at the End of the World, The Botany of Desire, Carl Sagan's Cosmos, The Buddha, 2012: A Time for Change, and anything narrated by David Attenborough, Micheal Wood, or Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Other movies I love- Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles, Star Trek:The Motion Picture, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
I have a greater familiarity with British tv than American. I love Downton Abbey, Rome, Skins, The IT Crowd, Coupling, BlackAdder, Ab Fab and Doctor Who. When it comes to American shows I like just about anything on PBS (Masterpiece, NOVA, Nature), TED talks, Star Trek (Enterprise and DS9 are my favs), Weeds, Pysch, and Once Upon a Time.
I really do enjoy a wide variety of music- from medieval to metal. I have especial love of rock, classical, and bluegrass. Some of my favorites are Amanda Palmer, Yo-yo Ma, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Infected Mushroom, Phutureprimitive, Led Zeppelin, Nina Simone, Don Williams, Avenged Sevenfold, Lumineers, White Ghost Shivers, Erykah Badu, Beatles, Queen, Allison Krauss, Andy Frasco, Bach, Vivaldi and Scarlatti.
I've spent the last year really trying to eat healthier and getting processed foods out of my life. If food is right medicine is of no need. I really enjoy growing my own food- nothing tastes better than a homegrown tomato! I love cooking and trying new types of food especially if it is spicy or involves chocolate. I've studied Thai, Japanese, Italian, German and Central European cooking- give me a recipe and I can make it! I also love to bake- you don't know heaven until you've tasted one of my cheesecakes. :)
