My self-summary
First - OKCupid is weird but I can assure you I have met cool people on it. And thanks for checking my profile out. If you and I end up meeting, it will probably be a walk somewhere cool in the city and then if we both agree, a stop for wine, beer or coffee. I've come to believe in simple first dates.
I've been living in NYC for the last 2 years after 10 years working in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. It was a great ride and I love to travel and explore new places and cultures, but I have to admit it's good to be back in the USA. I consider myself a pseudo anthropologist, art historian, and food critic after all my travels.
I'm crazy about sports and being active, but my main passion is tennis. If anyone wants a good hitting partner, drop me an email.
What I’m doing with my life
I direct global health research development at a major University. I love what I do but I learned a lot from a French phrase I heard a super model say on tv, "c'est ce que je fais, pas ce que je suis." (It's what I do, not what I am). I enjoy being active but find it hard to have a routine. I bike, hike, camp, run, ski, ride horses, and play lots of tennis whenever I can.
I’m really good at
Creating amazing excel sheet checklists for planning trips. (but I never follow itineraries once I get where I am going...)
The first things people usually notice about me
Freckles - I have them mainly on my face--
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Reading Vanity Fair right now and love it. Trying to get back to some of the classics after being let down by some modern novels. But I do love Cloud Atlas, Confederacy of Dunces, and anything by Gore Vidal. Also love Hemingway, Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird), almost any Russian Literature (old and newer - e.g. Dostoyevsky and Bulgakov), and short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. Guess I have a dark streak for books. I love gritty reality and stories that show the truth to humanity in every sense.

TV shows: Favorites include
(1) Breaking Bad
(2) Game of Thrones
(3) Walking Dead
(4) John Stewart
(5) The League (even though I know nothing about fantasy football)
(6) Downton Abby (yes I can admit I like this soap opera)

Food: Anything I make myself... but if I am going out then I love Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Spanish Tapas (but not main dishes), French and Italian (because its great with wine), Russian (because its great for drinking vodka in the winter), Thai, and beer gardens with German sausages. For me, food has a lot to do with where you are eating it.
The six things I could never do without
hummous, red wine, bread, cheese, a comfortable bed, comfortable shoes, books, love
On a typical Friday night I am
Drinking wine or beer with friends at a variety of events or playing tennis. Or just hanging at home decompressing and getting ready for the weekend.
