My self-summary
I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, yet am not even the least bit Mormon (stereotypes die hard like that). I lived for a time in both Eugene, then Portland, Oregon, but moved back home to Salt Lake about a year-and-a-half ago.

I enjoy and have very large interest in: art, illustration, graphic design, reading, writing, video games, computers/anything technologically fancy, history, science, comics, watching/creating movies, learning autodidactically… just a lot of generic things that I suspect probably have overlap with the interests of others—perhaps even yours!

Although not always in my day-to-day speech, I am not ashamed to say that I'm an avid fan of proper use of grammar, punctuation, correct spelling, and having an always-expanding vocabulary.
I find it a great indicator of intelligence when one can express oneself well in their writing, at least. (I am also human, however, so if you happen to spot an error on my profile, I'll be grateful should you suggest an edit.)

I have never seen a film starring Russell Crowe (not out of principle or anything, it's just a weird fact that I realized one day. He seems like an okay actor).

And no, I am not at all self-conscious about being on this website, grandma. Get with the times.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently attending classes at SLCC, with a focus in Illustration. One day (after I've acquired enough magic pieces of paper that show hiring personnel I know how to learn things), I hope to possibly earn a living using my illustration and graphic design skills in tandem.

Actually, very currently I just finished my second semester, and have decided to take the summer off, to focus on my job, as well as many ideas for personal projects that have been piling up in my brain, having taken a backseat to schoolwork.
I’m really good at
As stated, I'm not too shabby with illustration and graphic design. I keep being asked about examples of it. I have no online portfolio at the moment, so, here are a few selections instead:
1) A poster I designed for a friend's gig.
2) The pencil sketch of a work-in-progress illustration, featuring my best friend as a space lady.
3) A photo-manipulation/illustration combo of another friend's Facebook profile image, wherein she seemed to be flying a kite during stormy weather in the original photo (panel 1). I took things to the next logical conclusion.

Good? Good.

I also do well with computers. (Speaking of which, here's a PSA for all you Mac kids using Photo Booth to take pictures of yourselves: If you go to the "Edit" menu and check "Auto Flip New Photos", you won't end up with weird, mirrored pictures anymore.)

Oh, and I've collected all 20 bobble-heads in Fallout 3.
You're impressed, I can tell.
The first things people usually notice about me
The overall fact that I'm mostly shy, and a total awky, when meeting new people. (I assume this based purely on conjecture.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books
The Gun Seller, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, "The Old Kingdom" series (Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen), Yes Man.

Falling under the belt of graphic novels: Y: The Last Man, any sort of "Calvin & Hobbes" compendium, anything under the masterful hand of Mike Mignola, Tale of Sand by Jim Henson & Jerry Jhul and Ramón Pérez.

I like a few webcomics as well, of which I'll only list Nedroid and Hark! A Vagrant right now, in case "a like of webcomics" is for some reason a negative trait in your view, you weirdo.

Movies
The Back to the Future trilogy, Stranger Than Fiction, Amélie, Groundhog Day, The Orphanage (El Orfanato), just about everything by Tim Burton pre-Planet of the Apes (not counting Big Fish), Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Sunshine (2007), Pontypool, The Sandlot, Forrest Gump, New York: A Documentary Film… there are literally hundreds. I enjoy film very much, from various genres.

Music
Billy Joel, Ben Folds, The Cars, Eels, The National, Travis, Cake, The Killers, The Books, Electric Light Orchestra, Huey Lewis and the News, Regina Spektor, They Might Be Giants, Justice, Röyksopp, David Bowie, Janelle Monáe, Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Hot Chip…. We can compare Last.fm profiles later.

Podcasts
This American Life, Freakonomics Radio, NPR's All Songs Considered and Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, WNYC's Radiolab, and The Pod F. Tompkast.

Food
Pasta! Rice! Breakfast cereal! (By and large, breakfast foods in general.) …I'm pretty much a grains group kind of guy. Speaking of which: Bread!

Other than vaguely liking food-pyramid subgroups, I also enjoy Massaman curry, cheesecake, pretzels, various fruit juices (if you really must know which, you may ask), and "tuna, noodle & cheese" with broccoli.

Oh! I really love Cripps Pink/Pink Lady apples. That is an amazing apple. I do not know how I ever put the mushy garbage that is a Washington Red or Red Delicious in my mouth. I certainly have a hard time doing so now!

Television
PBS, Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development, Dexter, Adventure Time, Game of Thrones, Bob's Burgers, Freaks and Geeks, The Venture Bros., Batman: The Animated Series, British comedies (Red Dwarf, Blackadder, A Bit of Fry & Laurie, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers)….
Oh, and I suppose I need to follow that unspoken rule and add the entries The Simpsons and Seinfeld.

Video Games
Apart from the previously mentioned Fallout 3 (I'm most-way through Fallout: New Vegas*), there's also Portal and Portal 2, Half-Life, Half-Life 2 (and, by extension, the rest of the contents of The Orange Box), thatgamecompany's Journey, Kirby's Adventure, the first three Silent Hill games, basically every PixelJunk game, and Costume Quest.

(*There's a funny side note, if you care to ask about it.)
The six things I could never do without
• The Internet (well, computers in general, really. I at least love usin' me some Adobe software, that's for sure).
• The Arts
• Good friends. (In a larger scope, people to care for/be cared for by.)
• Dogs
• Sentence fragments. On lists.
• My sense of humor, lame—and/or secretly brilliant—as it may be.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Self-analysis. Social-behavioral things, e.g. the strange things I see people do in public and why they do them.

I'm very observant of objects and my surroundings, too—I've usually always been able to tell if something has changed— when I return somewhere at a later time, even if it's not completely obvious or is some detail of minutia.

I also like to imagine what a person's voice sounds like based solely on photos of them. It happens a lot with this website.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either alone at home, or hanging out with a few friends (which include the likes of jhill474 and haiburama; go check 'em out, ladies *wink*).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have never officially learned how to swim.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 21–32
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, short-term dating, activity partners, long-distance penpals
You should message me if
• You have interesting notes attached to some of the questions you've answered.
Apart from reading through your profile, and checking out your photos, I also tend to head for the Questions/"The Two of Us" tab, and scroll down to click on the "With Explanations" option. It usually allows that much more insight into you, whether you've attached something funny or thought-provoking. Both are preferable.

• You can teach me how to screen print (on cardboard, specifically).

• You know which of these is correct, which is incorrect, and why:
 - I like 80's music.
 - I like '80s music.

You're interested in most phases of data-processing.

• You wanna be pals.
