I have been online
since online was called BBS and internet was called FidoNet. I lived in
Seattle most of my
life where I soon discovered the mad computer skills I had
developed from being a SysOp lent themselves well to a job as a
computer administrator. I created a network for them and that grew
my job to Network Engineer, then Electronic Arts came calling for
a dev support position, then their QA dept stole me for their Lead
QA Tech. Then Microsoft stole me for a little
project most people never heard of called Windows 98.. and this all sets off a
chain reaction where bigger and better companies and salaries start
throwing themselves at me.
Right now I'm taking a break... I was originally going for a degree in Microbiology, why am I still working in communications protocols?! Oh... right... $$$
So while techniclaly my life has direction, it's not the one I originally wanted and I think that's where the rub is for me... I'd love to go back to Microbiology but each year that passes makes it less likely.
I am a strange creature. I lack the genetic code that makes other men enjoy spectator sports and beer. I love women though so thankfully that part of my normal male drives is intact.
I enjoy a culturally relativistic perspective. Meaning, I don't judge others based on my set of rules but I try to understand them in their own context. This is an awesome way to see people because if you do... you realize there's no evil people out there, just people doing what they feel is best for themselves and those they care about.
For myself I am an atheist and a first generation Mexican American. I'm an idealist and I very much believe in the rule of law that makes the USA a free country, but I've seen so many examples of the opposite with the Bush administration that I wonder if the rule of law still exists... or if it ever existed except in the mind of naive young idealists like myself.
