My Self-Summary
I grew up in Huntington Beach where I followed a grueling path of overachievement, culminating in becoming class president and almost getting expelled after my graduation speech. I went to school in Boston for five years and came back. Since then I've become very very close with my family and am enjoying being an uncle to my half-Japanese niece and nephew. I spend most of my free time exploring, writing, or at the beach while catching films and traveling when I get the chance.
Now I'm a scientist with three engineering degrees. It's funny how if you get enough degrees in engineering you become a scientist. I really hope there's not a poor scientist who is trying to see if obtaining three science degrees will turn them into an engineer. I'm a published writer, I mean, in addition to the limericks adorning various bathroom stalls. I did my undergrad at MIT and came back to SoCal because of the hatred of cold and obtained my PhD at USC. So, yes, I went from being a cold Beaver to being surrounded by Trojans!
More interesting tidbits:
- I like words that get a magical "k" when conjugated - panicked, trafficking, picnicked... I know, it's freaky!
- I have an absurdist sense of humor. Thank you very little.
- I have a weird obsession with the '70s. I especially the music while I drive. It doesn't feel right driving unless I got some Doors playing... NOTE: Disco still sucks. Kinda.
- I like it when things are modular and in groups like the Autobots or the periodic table, which I incidentally keep a copy of in my wallet. I got it at Caltech while I visited in high school. I sometimes hold it up and shout, "BY THE POWER OF NERDSCHOOL!" and turn into Stephen Hawking. I actually heard him speak once. It was cool. Oh, and MIT rules, but IHTFP.
- I am deeply in love with the themes from Dallas and Hawaii Five-O as well as any parodies of them.
- I have a hula girl on my dashboard.
- I memorized the phonetic alphabet because it sounds Charlie-Oscar-Oscar-Lima
- I want to plan an archaeological expedition to Northwest India where a lot of ancient stories take place, including the Mahabharata and The Vedas. I'll need a crack team of linguists, historians, bodyguards, engineers, and scientists.
- I'm not afraid of public speaking and actually hop (not jump) at the chance to do so, namely because I like making large groups of strangers laugh and think. The attention ain't bad either.
- And qtpi314 is awesome. :)

What I’m doing with my life
Right now, I'm just riding the days like one big fucking wave. Life could end up anywhere. No more milestones to reach or places where I think I should be. Clean slate. Mr. Clean's shiny bald forehead clean. Not to say I'm aloof or apathetic -- I'm actually so accustomed to working that it's now natural and stress-free. But at least there's conscious relaxing, once in a while.
So. If you've got suggestions for stuff to do around Simi Valley or LA, let me know.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Runners Up: Everything by David Fincher, especially Fight Club (and no, I'm not a violence-freak. This movie juxtaposes the survivalist and comfort-seeking dualities of mankind in a very meaningful way, but that aspect gets mostly overlooked.)
Music: Too many to name. I gravitate toward Britrock: Happy Mondays, Blur, Richard Ashcroft/Verve, MUSE. Also, Pixies, MGMT (I almost cry when I hear "Kids" and think about my baby niece :') ), Killers. I also love electronic music, like Goa Trance, Air, Air France, Orbital, Aphex Twin, Autechre, ...
Books: I finished The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami and greatly enjoyed it, despite its fantastic nature. Working on Crime and Punishment now. My favorite book is actually The Discoverers by Daniel Boorstin.
Food: Mexican
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
And I sometimes type www.okcomputer.com instead of www.okcupid.com
You should message me if
... you're someone who has her shit together. makes the best of any situation, likes to learn - no, scratch that. Loves it. I don't want to have to be a drama sink. A little is okay and it's important to get stuff on your mind, but I'm gonna help you work through it.
... you don't want a smart guy, you want a genius. You don't want a "travel buddy" you want an explorer/adventurer. You like deep conversations.
