My self-summary
I grew up in San Diego and Denver. Now I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with brigideire. I like good stories in any medium: books, comics, TV, movies. I've been working with computer hardware and software for over 30 years, and playing various computer RPGs for about the same length of time.

I am polyamorous. I am currently seeing DelaineGates and jaeclectic. This keeps me fairly busy, but I am always open for new friends with common interests.

I am thoughtful, introverted, and erudite.
What I’m doing with my life

I work for the federal government. I work and play with computers. I like reading and listening to interesting books. I've worked my way through the films of Akira Kurosawa (the 30 films he's directed; thank you, Criterion Collection), and am currently working my way through the Zatoichi films.

I've been helping out with BayCon, a literary science-fiction convention held Memorial Day weekend in Santa Clara. I may end up helping out with a couple other conventions in the area as well.

I’m really good at
Listening and being calm. Helping other people be calm.

Understanding things. Things that take patterns, such as diagnosing and programming computer come pretty easily to me.

I've also been told I'm good at explaining complex things to people.
The first things people usually notice about me

That I'm tall and hairy. Or my beard. Or my sense of humor, depending on the situation.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
While I've read more SF/Fantasy/Horror than other genres, I like a good story in almost any setting or medium. So while I would list Ender's Game, Snow Crash, and the Master Li series by Barry Hughart, I would also list Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome, The Last Samurai (no connection the movie with Tom Cruise) by Helen DeWitt and Richard Feynman's autobiographies. I also thought that Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Suzanne Clarke was awesome. I've recently read Christopher Moore's books. Very good stuff with a twisted sense of humor.

I've seen movies that were great on different levels from Finding Nemo to The Seven Samurai. I like most good stories whatever the genre, though I tend toward fantasy, sci-fi, and comedy. The Abyss was one of my top personal favorites for a long time.

My musical tastes range mostly through the rock spectrum. With a collection spanning a-ha through Warren Zevon (yes, I still sort my music by last name where appropriate), there's something in there for just about everyone. While I don't have the snobbery or encyclopedic knowledge of Rob Gordon (a character from another favorite movie), my musical knowledge does surprise most of my friends and I'm usually the one they come to when they want answers to obscure music trivia or help finding novelty songs. I also collect a lot of funny music and comedy of various sorts. "Weird Al" Yankovic and Tim Minchin are favorites there.

For food, I tend toward the basics. Various forms of beef and chicken, though I've been staying away from fast food lately. My all-time favorite restaurant was BD's Mongolian Barbeque in the LoDo area of Denver. Around 200 visits in 2 years, and I make it a point to go a time or two when I'm back there visiting friends.
The six things I could never do without
Beyond the basics needed to survive... Communication, computers, friends, good stories, sex, thinking.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Connections between things that are not necessarily related. I wrote a poem called Archetypes which tied in male roles from tarot symbolism into an on-and-off relationship I'd had.

Also how to write things that I'm experiencing or "what if" situations. And various songs floating through my head.
On a typical Friday night I am
Mmm... It varies. Staying home with my sweetie. Going out on dates (I'm polyamorous), movies, dinner. Sometimes playing video games, or watching TV or a movie at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
While going out with one girlfriend, I read a few romance novels. They did not improve my opinion of the genre as a whole.
