What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm an analyst at an actuarial firm, studying to become a credentialed actuary (4/5 exams down towards my associateship). I really like my job, and succeeding at it is important to me.

I grew up in NoVA, and moved back home for a while after college. I live in a townhouse with one of my best friends now, but still visit my parents and little brothers every weekend - they're leaving for college soon, so I want to spend as much time with them as possible.

Overall, I feel really good about the direction my life is going - I have a job I'm good at and enjoy, a nice house with no commute, some awesome friends, and a good relationship with my family.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- Math. At least, that's what they pay me for.
- Forgetting the right word for for things. I swear I have a great vocabulary, I just can't ever remember the bit of it I need at any given time.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I skew pretty hard to the fantasy/science fiction genres here. I'm actually a big fan of (well-written) children's fiction like CS Lewis, Susan Cooper, and Lloyd Alexander (Taran and Eilonwy will always have a special place in my heart). Nowadays my favorite books are the ones that make me think about really big ideas - Neal Stephenson's Anathem may be my favorite science fiction book ever. I also enjoyed Vernor Vinge's A Deepness in the Sky.

Movies: I like to jump around on Netflix and try to find movies I wouldn't normally have watched. If the movie looks like it can hold my attention for ~2 hours, I'll give it a shot.

Shows: Right now I'm just sad that I have to wait for the next season of Game of Thrones. I also loved The West Wing.

Music: I have odd tastes in music. I mostly like whatever goes on the oldies or pop rock stations, but I also love soundtracks to movies, shows, or video games with good music. I really like music that I can fall asleep to.
edit: apparently everyone on OKC has "eclectic" taste in music, so I guess mine actually isn't...

Blogs: This category wasn't in the question, but since I read several regularly I thought I'd throw it in. I read a lot of economics/public policy blogs daily - Paul Krugman, The Money Illusion, Marginal Revolution, Matt Yglesias, Modeled Behavior, EconLog, Interfluidity and Worthwhile Canadian Initiative the most.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I used to spend a lot of time reading and thinking about philosophy. Nowadays I spend a lot of time reading and thinking about economics.

I was a math/comp sci major in college and so really I just like taking anything and approaching it from a rationalist perspective - even (especially) when that's silly.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
