My self-summary
Former teacher. Current grad student. Lifelong New Yorker.

Everyone I know calls me the most social person they know, but I honestly consider myself a hermetic nerd. Truth is I'm comfortable whether I'm engaging people in conversation about mostly anything or relaxing at home and pondering about inequality, education, and social progress. I'm really just an introvert in an extrovert's body.

I've been told that I should add that I'm going to grad school so I can build a private middle school for boys. If this interests you, let me know and maybe I'll tell you where I plan to do it (since that's an important part to the story too!)

[Fall 2013 Edit] - I've been on OKCupid for about a year now. It's been a fascinating experience so far, but I feel like my profile needs a bit of an update. So here are some other things about me that seems fairly relevant:
-I've always been artistic. Whether it's drawing, music, dancing, or theater, the arts have always been a part of my life. These days I channel my creativity into education, entrepreneurship, and policy analytics, but my love for the arts is eternal.
-I'm a people person. I like learning about people's lives and passions. It just kinda fascinates me.
-I still can be randomly shy at random times.
-Going to school and building a school take up a lot of my time. It's a major focus in my life right now.
-Still, it's important for me to be open to and experience new things. I'm always pushing myself to be more present, more engaged, and more appreciative of life and others.
What I’m doing with my life
Going to school and finding ways to interact with new people.

I was initially skeptical on online dating sites, but have since converted. It's a fun way to meet different people.

When I'm not in class or working on my business, I'm watching politics, drawing, making music, playing the good old guitar, catching up on sleep, or procrastinating. It's the simple things in life that mean the most to me.
I’m really good at
Being creative, thinking outside of the box and/or strategically, understanding others...

Listening and teaching (in that order).
The first things people usually notice about me
New experiment: Why don't you tell me? I'm totally intrigued by what the responses could be - if anyone actually decides to take me up on this.

If I were to offer a suggestion I would say my voice (it's both loud and resonate). Can't tell that through the interwebs though.

Also, people often say that I have a certain way of making them feel comfortable fairly quickly. It was definitely a useful skill for a teacher to have!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Historical non-fiction is my type of jam

Movies: Oliver and Company, anything with animation or puppetry work, Love Jones, Do the Right Thing, loads of Spike Lee actually

Shows: West Wing, Jersey Shore, Heroes, cable news everything, CSPAN, SNY, other things

Music: All

Food: All

Note: Does anyone else find populating this list to be exhausting? I didn't even write that much and it tired me out. The irony is that my list is by no means exhaustive as a result.
The six things I could never do without
No clue how to answer this question. Stumped.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Social justice, national competitiveness, education reform, systemic inequity, innovation, civic engagement, economic development, comic books, music, culture

Outside of that laundry list of things that occupy my thoughts, I also spend a lot of time reflecting on how I can be a better person in life, love, and my relationships. More broadly, I try to figure out how to make dreams (mine and others') come alive. It just makes me happy thinking about that stuff.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either out or home. Nothing too complex there.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I still really enjoy cartoons.

With respect to OKC, I actually read your profile and questions before heading for your pictures, am amazed by the amount of people who care about education/social justice on this site, and apparently am a sucker for big-rimmed nerd glasses.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 27–40
  • Near me
  • For new friends, short-term dating
You should message me if
You found some aspect of my profile or personality interesting. Or if you enjoy a nice conversation. Or if you just plain want to.

[Fall 2013 Edit] - I'm just looking to connect with people I can learn and grow from, whether that's from a solitary conversation, enlivening date, or deeper relationship. More on the romantic side, I'm looking for a woman who can wear sweats or an evening dress, and still feel beautiful inside and out as well as someone who values communication and knows the difference between witty, playful banter and dour cynicism (the latter gets old after a while). If you're up for any of that, then you should definitely reach out.
