Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like a lot of popular non-fiction, like Michael Lewis, Malcolm Gladwell, Bill Bryson, and Erik Larson. Some more obscure non-fiction as well: histories, financial subjects. On the fiction side I've been reading a lot of stories lately: Tobias Wolf, George Saunders, David Foster Wallace, stories in the New Yorker. I pull out a classic novel to re-read every once in a while, especially love Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. I read the NYT every morning.

I am an official film buff, since I have the Film Buff card from the MFA. I love ( almost) anything by the Coen Brothers, Woody Allen, Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Alexander Payne, Robert Rodriguez, Wes Anderson, .... Fave movies include No Country for Old Men, Dr. Strangelove, Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, Strangers On a Train, Slumdog Millionaire, Fargo, Seven Samurai, True Grit ( the newer Coen Bros. version), The Lives of Others (German), and lots and lots of others. I always check out the latest action flicks.

Shows-- I like live theater. I enjoy Stages, Main Street and Catastrophic Theater stuff especially. I go to NYC sometimes for my Broadway fix. I like Miller Outdoor Theater and Discovery Green shows, often go to Cezanne for jazz and Brazilian music. I usually get seasons tickets to HGO. Really enjoy opera and chamber music. I go to a lot of shows over at Rice, also Baker Institute lectures (but don't know if those count as "shows").
The six things I could never do without
My computer
My passport
My voter registration card
My Amex card
My iPod
My cloak of invisibility

I don't actually have that last thing. But would that not be very cool?
On a typical Friday night I am
Maybe catching a movie, out to eat with friends, or hearing some live music. I like Cezanne on Fri. nights.
