My self-summary
Hi I’m John, and here’s a little bit about myself.

I love helping people. I get a little joy in making someone’s day brighter. Sometimes I compliment people on their clothing or recent success they had, something small. Sometimes I help out more. One time I was by UCF and these two guys with guitars on their backs came up to me. They were asking for some change to grab a bus back to Kissimmee. There on this side of town because they were helping out with a jam session to make a little money and they got ditched by their ride. Luckily for them, I was literally on my way to head to Kissimmee to visit my parents. I offered to drive them and it was a good time getting to know them as I drove with them. Anytime I see an opportunity to help someone, I do it. This includes friends with any personal issues.

Probably one of the reasons why I drove those guys rather than just give them some money was because they had guitars with them. They were musicians. I love listening to music, but I think I interact with it differently than other people. Musicians write songs to convey a certain emotion or event in their life. It’s a small look into who they are. Their music allows you to experience what they experience. It’s like looking at the perfect picture of the Grand Canyon. You only get a glimpse of what they felt, but that’s all that’s needed. I sometime like to play a game where I listen to a song and try to feel the emotion that is trying to be conveyed and try to put into words what that emotion is.

I’m also fascinated by political issues. I heard a joke recently about watching a political segment on CNN or Fox News. It’s like when you were little and your parents would spell out something in front of you. You don’t know what’s being said, but you’re pretty sure it affects you directly. I don’t want to feel this way about politics. I want to be able to follow along because public policy affects everyone. I know I won’t be able to figure out everything, but I don’t want to be oblivious either.

Would you like to know more…?
What I’m doing with my life
I’m currently working at Aon Hewitt as an On Floor Supervisor in the customer service department. I work with insurance benefits companies give to their employees. I sought after a job like this so I can develop my interpersonal skills and to help people when needed. I enjoy looking for unconventional solutions for people who might be having issues with their benefits.

I’m also going to school at UCF to get my B.A in Philosophy. I hear they are building one of them philosophy mills up by the river, so I will be overflowing with philosophy job offers. I wish, but I chose philosophy for the logic and the problem solving aspects. It also helps with creating a structure for arguments, so I can convey my ideas and positions better.

More personally, I’m also working out more consistently, about 1-2 hours, for 5 days every week. I hope to one day rock a “2SWOLE2CONTROL” shirt (/vanity), but in reality I just want to live a healthier life.

I used to play guitar a lot, but that passion unfortunately faded, but I’m going to try to bring it back to life again. I recently bought a new amplifier so I can bring the best out of my two electric guitars. I may also buy a piano to help teach myself some music theory.

Once I finish my degree, I’m going to apply for law school up north, hopefully in NY State, but that won’t be for another year or so.

I’m hoping one day get good enough to play gigs with my guitar in front of people, not in a band, but during open mic nights.

Closer to the present, I want to go rock climbing. I want to go every few weekends, but friends keep bailing on me. Anyone want to go with me?
I’m really good at
I used to be able to solve a Rubik’s cube in under a minute, but I’ve forgotten the algorithm or pattern to help solve it. If I wanted, I could probably relearn and memorize the pattern again in a relatively short period of time.

That’s another thing I’m good at, an ability to learn quickly. You can give me a book written by Nietzsche and would be able to give a summary of the book fairly quickly.

I try to develop that skill, not just for books, but for people as well. This is why I’m a good listener. Friends come to me so I can listen to their issues. I listen and learn what is affecting them and figure out how to help them, it that’s what is needed. People tend to forget that not every problem needs something fixed. Sometimes, they just need an ear to listen to their problems. It can be difficult to determine which is needed, and I’m pretty good making that determination.
The first things people usually notice about me
The one thing I hear over and over again is how nice and polite I am. I hold doors for people, I’m the first to offer buying a round of beers and I try not to offend. If I do, I apologize and make amends immediately. I find it strange when people find this unique when I think it should be the standard of how people interact with each other.

People also notice my X tattoo that’s on my left forearm. It’s the symbol of my fraternity. I have it as a reminder of the friend that became brothers to me during my time there. It lets me know I can never be alone.

Favorite movies
Office space
The Pianist
Hot Fuzz

Office space and Hot Fuzz are two movies I can start watching at any point and always finish it, laughing my ass off. The Pianist is just a great movie about a regular musician dealing with the German occupation of Poland during WW2

Favorite book

A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn

A People’s History is the book that made me involved in politics. Before I read that book, I wanted to become a computer engineer. Afterward, I knew I wanted to end up in politics somehow. It also provides a fascinating view into the everyday lives of American history.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why is Steven Tyler's mouth so large?

I also think about how to make the most out of the next few years. I'm still relatively young and I want to learn habits that make my life better. I have a chance to learn from my mistakes with enough time to improve on them.
On a typical Friday night I am
Ideally, I would be going out with friends to a bar to have a good time, preferably a bar with some karaoke and craft beers on tap. Just need to get together and wind down the work week, playing some pool or darts. Catch up on anything may have happened, good or bad. Just a Friday to relax with friends and shake up the weekly monotony.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I learned how to ride a bike at 23. It was a lack of confidence before which never led to fully learn. One day I decided I wanted to change that so I grabbed my little brother's bike, and learned. Took me 20 minutes. 2 hours later, I crashed into a parked car.
