My self-summary
Hi! I'm pretty awesome! I'm a huge sci-fi and fantasy fan, especially Star Trek, and I love tabletop RPGs. I dabble in just about anything you can do with a string - needlepoint, knitting, sewing, whatever. I'm pretty shy when it comes to dating and making friends, but I'm trying to get over that.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a nurse. It's a pretty awesome job with some gnarly hours. I have one year of working under my belt as of November, and I'm planning to head back to school for my BSN, and then bigger things. Someday, I'd like to be a Nurse Practitioner, but that's a few years down the road. I sort of spent the winter cocooned up in my apartment, and I'm looking forward to actually doing things this summer. It'd be kind of cool if I could get outside of my teeny comfort zone, especially if I found some neat people and activities there.
I’m really good at
Writing, knitting, cooking, embroidery and oogy things best described as 'my job'. But I really hope that last bit won't ever intersect with my romantic life.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have never thought to ask. I have red hair? I get compliments on it, at least. Or the headbands. I have more headbands than Sally's Beauty.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
In no particular order...

Books: 'My Life As A White Trash Zombie' (if you haven't read it, go, do so. It's glorious), all the Miles Vorkosigan books and associated works, anything by Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb, all of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books and all the crappy mystery novels ever.

Movies: I love anything with Godzilla or a superhero. The first Hellboy movie and the first Transformers. Any kind of horrible monster movie, especially if watched with friends.

Shows: I have a shameful love for reality TV - Bridezillas, Hoarders, cooking shows with Ramsey in them and true crime. Do nature shows count as reality? I love those, too. Aside from that...Star Trek, Firefly, Law and Order (especially UK), and also Eureka and Warehouse 13 back before a fatal lack of DVR made it impossible to follow long term storylines.

Music: Tom Waits, bluegrass, classic rock and a little bit of everything else.

Food: I love trying new things, and am mostly fearless about strange foods. I tend towards strong flavors and lots of spices. I eat more squash and dark leafy green things than anyone else I know, and I love cheese. If only it loved me back.

Bonus section!
Collections: Pyrex, rocks, globes, mining lanterns and equipment, old ammunition boxes (the metal kind, preferably of large caliber. I...really cannot explain why I like them. I've never fired a gun outside of Girlscout camp.) I also have a lot of yarn, but that's more because I think I'll make something out of it.

Hobbies: role playing, video games, embroidery, knitting, crochet, refinishing old furniture at a slow, slow pace, cooking.

Comics: Hellboy, BPRD and The Goon. I'm still getting used to this whole 'having a disposable income' thing, so perhaps that list will grow.

Art: Mike Mignola. Japanese prints, especially those by Hokusai. Frank Lloyd Wright. Native American art, especially bandolier bags (I have ambitions of making a reproduction). Illuminated manuscripts. There should be more here, but I'm just starting to explore, really. Thus far, I've enjoyed everything except Dadaism.
The six things I could never do without
My family
A computer
Something to read
A game
Something to talk about
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Oh, God, I don't know. Legend of Zelda? Better ways to organize the next few hours? Dinner?
On a typical Friday night I am
Possibly working; I get scheduled wherever they need me, and that means weekends and night shifts. If I'm not working, I'm either hanging out with my sister or glued to a video game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm terrified of needles when they're pointed at me. Irony!

I don't know how to drive. Yeah, I know, but I've lived on a busline and worked in Oakland all my life.
